Stand Alone Game

I think Dayz should try to become a stand alone game meaning that i does not need Arma 2 and Arma 2 OA to run it. Most people get Arma 2 just to play Dayz. post your thoughts.

And i know its a mod but i think it should be made into a game and then into a ps3 or xbox game

from what i've heard there should be a standalone game coming just before christmas. Although i wouldnt build your hopes up if you expect it to be on Xbox or PS3.

as far as rumors and interviews go, there will be a standalone game (don't know which engine, may be ARMA engine, maybe not), ARMA 3 will be released before the standalone game. It most likely wont come to consoles, as most computers have a hard time running it right now (it may be optimized) so consoles most likely would not be able to run it.

Making it to consoles would dumb it down a lot anyways (like every other multi platform game), should at least wait till the next generation consoles.

Hmm for some reason this post just made me giggle. Not because of the standalone idea, But because of the releasing it on console. First the consoles internet would not be able to handle more than about 16 people in one server at a time. Second the consoles GPU might not be able to render the entire map. (Might be wrong on that, but i don't think so)

Third a console controller would not be able to use even half of the buttons you have to use on DayZ. This game is a game never meant to come onto console and it never will.

Stand Alone before christmass seems unlikely. I did hear Dayz is compatible with Arma 3 engine so it wont take long to copy paste everything over to the new engine it seems. If Arma 3 is finally released I really think the best idea is to completly abandon the arma 2 engine.
