So can zombies now hear or not???

I've been asking around and reading the 1.7.2.4 feedback threads to see if anyone else has noticed the zombies are totally deaf in this newest patch. So far I havent seen almost any complaining about it so I've been wondering...

Do the zombies hear your gunshots??? I've noticed the zombies hear absolutely nothing when I fire a gun right next to them. Is it a server side issue or what?

Edit: And by the way does the 50% audibility reduction through objects introduced in 1.7.2 work for gunfire too?

Well I attracted the majority of Elecktro's zombies after firing my AKM so I would think they can hear
