Tigger (DayZ) 24 Posted July 29, 2012 I tried flying helicopters offline and while it's stupidly easy (the flight model isn't too realistic), I have problems getting them off the ground. It seems that take-off throttle is almost 95% and the ceiling of the Huey in game is about 1.4km (compared to the actual ceiling of ~6km). Are these problems with my throttle calibration or does everyone have this?
greenfist (DayZ) 11 Posted July 29, 2012 There's something wrong with your throttle or expectations. I think helicopters climb with relatively realistic speed.Try take-offs with key Q (or whatever keyboard bind) and compare?
mr_seacucumber 81 Posted July 29, 2012 No, when I fly it goes up then straighnt back into the ground to explode nicely.
noobfun 87 Posted July 29, 2012 thats what we like to hear ppl flying high in heli's, making it easier to 1)spot 2) range 3)lead 4)shoot down
Drblodski 53 Posted July 29, 2012 Helis are not easy to fly in Arma I would say. They are easy to take off but to do the special stuff - like fast landings (not crashes lol) and knowing how to navigate and evade enemy fire and fly attck runs for a door gunner to get a good bead on an area are all advanced stuff and I wouldn't write off the flight model as easy and basic. Also you should very rarely use auto hover once you get good.Hit me up on steam if you ever need an ace chopper pilot. I have 500+ flight hours in game over the years I guess. bassist05 69 Posted July 29, 2012 They've been back in the game like 2 hours and this thread already exists? Sometimes I wonder why I keep coming back here.
Tigger (DayZ) 24 Posted July 29, 2012 I think the whole flight model is just FUBAR to make it easy to fly it with a mouse or something. Even with Q I only get moderate power, I think the key/joystick doesn't control throttle/collective directly, it rather sets the altitude or rate of ascent or something like that.
