so i bought ARMA II during the summer sale on the recommendation of a friend to play Day Z. I looked into it and found the premise interesting, and I liked the idea of a realistic zombie survival game.

And then I started playing, I logged in and died very fast. So I did my research and learned methods of not dying. coming back I was excited to play again, then I got hacked and killed while playing with a buddy....he was not amused.

Then there were the bugs, aggroing zombies that were no where near me was frustrating when I am trying to sneak around, because i knew how to lose them. I learned to deal with them.

The reason I will be leaving this game though is because of the community, I have never experienced such a terrible community for a game. The hardcore elite act like this is the second coming of video game jesus, and that there is nothing wrong with it what so ever, and have somehow strong armed the developer into thinking that the game NEEDS to be as gritty and grim dark as possible, which for every person I have played with has been a big turn off.

the biggest issue i have with these elites is how they are destroying the game they defend so dearly. From a pure business standpoint you will bring about the death of your own game. No one wants to log into the game, spend hours scavenging for gear, only to be killed by a jerk on a roof with a sniper rifle. There is no bigger turn off to continue playing a game when hours of work are destroyed by something outside of your control. What they dont realize is that when the game no longer shows viability then they will pull the plug on the servers.

Ive grown tired of this rant already, this game is shit not because of the ALPHA build(that's built on a two year old released game engine) it is because the community has already decided that they want it one way, and to think that any other way is wrong. this game has potential, lots of potential, but it is squandered pandering to a small group of ignorant gamers, and trying to build it on a engine that is far too limiting.

Well, I am truly sorry that you feel the way you do, though I am inclined to agree with you. I agree that there are elements of the community that are ignorant, immature, and agonizingly petty. That said, most of us are not. My suggestion to you would be to come back for the Beta, or even the standalone. The bugs will be fixed, and an endgame will be in place to reduce the amount of what I call "homicidal boredom" I understand that you are frustrated, just like I was at one point, and a break from this mod may be the only cure. It's certainly worked for me. Then, try and find a group of players who have a bigger goal in mind, whether it is a bandit group dedicated to wreaking havoc on clans, or a group of medics trying to bring a little humanity back to the Wasteland.

Or, you maybe this mod isn't for you. That is certainly a possibility, and not a bad one contrary to popular belief. Hope you find better fortune in the future and remember, we're not all knuckle-dragging fucknuggets.

Everyone is in agreement that the game and the concept is glorious and yet anyone who isn't a real life equivalent of "the comic book guy" from the Simpsons sees the same issues with the community. REALLY STRANGE HUH?

Actually, most of the "community" are just busy playing and not posting on here. It's easy when reading forums to get a skewed view of peoples opinions because it's often only the fanboys/girls or people with complaints that bother to post.

It's a shame you've taken that view this early on in the process but this mod was never going to appeal to everyone. It's a bit like Marmite, people love it or hate it and the ones that hate it really can't understand why everyone else thinks it's one of the most original concepts in gaming for years.

Also , I'm trying not to be pedantic but being sniped from a rooftop is within your control and avoidable. As for the bugs, while it remains on this engine (which it will while the concept and mechanics are tested) then many of us have just accepted that as being involved in part of the Alpha testing phase. I've Alpha tested other games at the Alpha stage that have been far less complete and stable than Day Z.

Like I say, if it's not for you then cool. A bit weird how you would sign up to a forum just to have a dig at the community though.

I agree with you, one person can start randomly killing people for fun then those people get angry and kill more people and from there It's like a chain reaction. If you plan to keep playing my advice is to avoid elektro and cherno completely.

actually the biggest problem is bored hackers, they absolutely have no interest in the survival aspect of the game their main goal is to ruin the game for those playing by hacking the servers causing all kinds of trouble. They are nothing but punks who could care less about dayz or the community. Until rocket can fix the hacking problem the game will continue to suffer.

Some PvE servers would be great

I would like to team up with some players (none of my real frinds wants to play this game), but thats pretty much imposible right now.

EDIT: Or at least abilyty to form a squad, which would disable friendly fire within one

I like it at times but prefer Peanut Butter but i prefer Marmite to Jam.

I would love to see some dedicated PVE servers and for all those that say it would feel too much like a game and kill immersion i say we need to at least test it (and it IS a game). If the PVE servers are constantly flooded and full then it shows alot of people want it. Also even if its 50% of servers become PVE only thats not changing the game its only giving people a choice whether they want to survive or kill. If you join a PVP server you better prepare yourself. It'll also stop people posted complaints about "i was killed with no gear" etc etc as they were taking the risk with a PVP server.

It will allow like minded people to play together and isn't that the main reason we play online?

Well I've teamed up with people I've never met and made some good new friends too.

Err, why would you want to disable friendly fire? If your not good enough not to shoot your friend in the back of the head then you need to practice more. Having freindly fire is as important as the permadeath aspect of the game.,.

Well to carry on my ill thought out metaphor, you can still have your jam or peanut butter in the forms of hundreds of other Mods for Arma. There's RPG mods like city life, a pretty impressive lookng survival mod on the way involving flooding, hyper realistic army simulators like Poject Reality and ACE.. People have been modding this game for years and will continue to do so.

Day Z is Rockets mod and was initially just intended to run on one server for him and some friends to test out some different gameplay mechanics. Now it's become popular people seem intent on moulding it into something else entirely. I was attracted to it because of the harshness of it, I'm sick of being patronised by game developers that are trying to please everyone in order to maximise sales. Day Z is almost an anti game in that respect. It's harsh, brutal and unforgiving. People that have been brought up on games that hold their hand and lead them down a prefixed narrative under the guise of an open world experience are having trouble adjusting.

Yes there is balance issues, that's why were here, to test it. Rocket has already said many times that in the future, teamplay will be encouraged and assisted, with the game encouraging this element. it won't happen at this stage though so patience is really the only answer to that.

As far as I can see, Rocket has a pretty clear vision of what he wants. This may not be the quickest or most elegant way of achieving it but for now, it's his baby, we've payed nothing for it and will just have to wait to see what becomes of it in the future.

Oh and it's just my opinion but PVE completely brakes the whole concept of the game for me by removing the tension and risk.

You honestly shouldn't even come back for the beta if that is how you feel. This whole fucking game is predicated on hours of working being destroyed by something outside of your control.

What do you want, a prompt that says "mash x to dodge bullet now!" whenever a sniper takes a shot? Or perhaps the ability to run into any city freely and without watching for other players?

Again, this seems like the opposite of your kind of game.

But hell, that means they should change it to suit you, right?

I totally disagree that it won't or even isn't happening at this stage. Do you usually play alone? As soon as I got into this game it was immediately apparent I needed a small group to run with in order to keep alive. Without any prompting from "group quests" or "boss monsters" I figured it out pretty quickly.
