Just a few suggestions.

Recommended Posts

I have heard people say that Rocket would prefer DayZ to be focused on more of zombie survival with some PvP rather than it being a PvP survival game with some zombies. I could see this happen with some basic changes. However, I don't actually know how hard this stuff would be to implement because, as I heard in a video, the mod "is a hack on top of a hack" (Rocket). Some of these ideas I'm going to suggest are apparent problems, and the team is probably aware of. This is basically me throwing my ideas that I think could help DayZ to feel more like a zombie survival game with some PvP instead of the opposite.

TL:DR Section (Read this section if you just want to read the suggestions)

1. Zombie AI/mechanics:

The first suggestion would to work on zombie AI/mechanics. I'm sure everyone knows this problem, and it's been addressed a million times. If zombies could run indoors people wouldn't just run through a building and lose the horde of zombies they had chasing them. They'd actually have to deal with them one way or another. I feel like you should be able to go into a room, close the door and the zombies can't get inside, but you're stuck inside the building now with zombies outside.

2. Scarcity of ammo:

I feel like it's way too easy to find ammo for a gun. I know there's some guns with rare ammo, but I feel like all ammo should be hard to find. This would make players think twice before unloading clips trying to kill other plays. They might need that ammo to deal with some zombies they aggro that can actually run inside buildings.

3. Melee weapons/durability:

If you were to make ammo scarce then we would need some way to defend ourselves when we don't have ammo for a gun. This is where the crowbar or hatchet comes in. The current problem with these two weapons is that it replaces your main gun to be able to use it, and there's no point to use it once you find a lee enfield or some pistol that you find tons of ammo for where ever you go. For people to use the melee weapon it needs to be easily accessible without having to put your gun in your backpack or drop it on the ground. Now to prevent people from just meleeing zombies instead of wasting their precious ammo, you would have durability. The weapon would break after a certain amount of use. Currently the melee weapons have ammo at like 10,000, or something like that. This is where the problems with implementing this stuff comes in.

4. Log out timer:

Currently people can just alt + F4 when they are almost dead, or they just abort when someone shoots them and makes them pass out. To fix this I feel like all you have to do is put a timer after you click abort. It would take something like 10-20 seconds. To keep people from alt + F4ing you could do something like MMOs where people stay online after they alt + F4 for a period of time. Their internet goes out, and they legitimately get DCed. Oh well that's bad luck, like any game.

TL:DR Section (Read this section if you just want to read the suggestions)

Over all, I feel like zombies need to be a bigger threat. For them to be a bigger threat you need zombies who can actually chase someone, and ammo needs to be scarce. For ammo to be scarce you need something to use in place of it (melee weapons). For melee weapons to not be the preferred choice for killing zombies, because ammo is scarce, you need threatening zombies and durability on the melee weapons.

Now this brings me to think the game would feel like you just crawl around passed zombies, and don't want to kill people because you don't have ammo, and this is just a running simulator. This is where a better bandit/survivor system would come in. Maybe make zombie hoards come at random. This is really getting into a sort of Left 4 Dead feel because I don't really know how many people would be into just finding loot, so they just go find more loot, but don't have enough to just PvP at random. It would probably get boring for a lot of people unless the zombies get reworked and are more engaging.

It's all been suggested before.

No to all of it but the Zombies.

Zeds are way the fuck to easy.

Can you give me and feedback as to why not? Otherwise, useless criticism.

man, some psycos just love killing people :D

Sure and they can gather all they ammo they want and go on a killing spree. Then they can go back to gathering ammo and building up their stock until they have enough to go on a killing spree again. Currently it's a 24/7 killing spree in the starting areas.
