Stick32 0 Posted May 25, 2012 I love the idea of parachute insertion. ..As for the first idea I quite like it' date=' although I find it hard to explain why you'd be falling from the sky. Luckily that's not my job :P If you had some control over the parachute though it'd add to the possibility of joining up with your mates easily, by for instance aiming for the same village or w/e.[/quote']I do like the idea of a controllable parachute a bit better in case you find your self over a spawning over a major city and you want to navigate to a safer area. Maybe we only let the parachute open at a very low altitude. You would have a little bit of time to avoid obstacles but not enough to navigate to much further. To me, however, it makes more sense to find yourself plummeting to the ground than it does waking up on the shore of a strange land. Let's be honest the marooned survivor thing is a bit cliche, and really, who travels by ship these days?To me it makes more sense this way since you can theorize you were on a military transport to a safe zone when midflight you find out an infected had snuck aboard. All hell breaks loose, You grabbed a chute and bailed. As far as the second idea I don't like. For one, it feels a bit game'y' think it would kind of take me out of the experience. Secondly, I think it would incentivize hunting down new players. Since they might have something you didn't pick at the start and have come to regret not picking. daedrick 90 Posted May 26, 2012 All fair points, keep the opinions coming, I read them all. It helps me think about better ideas! Thanks!
mattressi 3 Posted May 26, 2012 Parachuting is a great idea.Changing/allowing people to choose the starting gear is not.I was thinking exactly the opposite. I think parachuting is a bad idea. First, it doesn't really seem to fit with the game - having a whole bunch of new characters parachuting from the sky constantly seems out of place, and I'm not sure what plane they're meant to be falling from. Second, it's completely counter to what the OP said he wanted - to stop spawn killing. Now everyone will be able to see new players slowly descending from the sky and will be easily able to locate them quickly. Hell, some will probably just hsoot them out of the sky. As well as this, it means that new players will be able to see where people are around them, which also means that any bandits spawning will have a birds eye view of everyone around them and can pick their targets. To me, it just seems like an all-round bad idea and would create far more problems than it solves (and would be a massive advantage to bandits and a massive disadvantage to survivors who just want to not get PKed). As for equipment selection, I think it could be fun. There could be a 'default' loadout that can be selected or you can customise to get things more suited to your style. Nothing high level, but if someone wanted to go into the wilderness they could start with some matches, wood, hunting knife and a Makarov, for example. It would add flavour to the game, I think. Then again, it could make new characters a bigger target since they might have a compass, etc.
m.p0v3y@gmail.com 0 Posted May 26, 2012 I find it interesting that there is a 50/50 split both ways of people liking and disliking the 2 different ideas.I don't like the first idea, parachuting in doesn't feel right but on the other hand it would explain why you have a military vest/webbing on.I really like your second idea, reminds me of Dwarf Fortress, do you want to embark now or prepare for the journey more carefully. Ahhhh why did i bring 5 cats...
JakCurse 1 Posted May 26, 2012 +1 rep for this. Would need careful balancing but perhaps instead of all paradropping, have people spawn in random places, with random kit (to a degree) so, perhaps you could be lucky and spawn with a winny & supplies or just a load of tin cans. It would spice up the early game no end. My two cents. The only drama I can envisage with random kit at the start is people respawning to change their kit if they spawn with terrible items, perhaps force people to spend 30 minutes/ an hour ingame before dying effects what they spawn with, so no matter whether you're killed by a zed or a bandit or yourself, you gotta wait it out if you don't want to scavenge that badly. SixIron 0 Posted May 26, 2012 The para drop is interesting for being able to see your surroundings before you start, but beyond that I have no issues with where I spawn or with what starting kit. What I would like is a spawn mechanic that allows me to coordinate spawning with a friend or group, in close proximity. The spawn point can still be random, but we all enter a number? or something so we all spawn close together.
SensenmanN (DayZ) 5 Posted May 27, 2012 I don't like the second idea, but I do like the first. I don't think you should be able to control the parachute, but I love the idea of giving people a small glimpse of the world around them.
duddbudda 33 Posted May 27, 2012 not parachute, an inflatable outrigger thing with limited fuelcould also be used for 'party' spawnsas for editable loadouts? nomakarov is default for a reason; give certain people the option to spawn with a lee even if it costs their own survivability and they'll just ruin the coast

Tuomio (DayZ) 3 Posted May 27, 2012 Just think that parachute for a second:- Every time you start playing you would have to wait like 1-2 minutes to get down. If you ever played Arma where there's missions like that. Okay its not a long time but imagine to do that every time!- Second you would always be so freaking vulnerable in the sky. You could not do anything and if someone saw you, you would be fucked. Players would try to kill you even before you are landed and there's NOTHING for you to prevent that.As the second idea. That's better one.
Bear ( The Irish ) 0 Posted June 18, 2012 +1 this i agree all the way with the resource system
aks 5 Posted June 18, 2012 I think it would be better if the spawn areas were more randomized in order to avoid mass killing of newly spawned players. Also for starting out perhaps a compromise with having a makarov with NO mags and an EMPTY canteen with 1 can of beans. This might have an interesting effect on the way player interaction goes.
