Initial impressions.

Recommended Posts

I really like the concept so far, but I wanted to express some things that hinder my play or could use improvement, I have no idea if they are mod issues, or ArmA issues. That's not too relevant to my post.

First thing, logging in takes a long, long time. This goes for re-spawning as well. I can go smoke a cigarette and read some news in the time it takes to re-spawn/receive data.

Second. Zombies are too fast at times, and also, quite frequently, feel like I am playing against hackers:

[ul][li]They do not run, they pop in most cases.[/li]

[li]They hit through walls.[/li]

[li]They do not care if a door is closed or not.[/li]

[li]There seems to be only one real type. ( 28 days, rage type )[/li]

[li]Shots do not register until seconds after[/li]

[li]They run in what seems to be a forced curve, but never go where predicted to be.[/li]

[ul]

Third. Grouping with friends is near imposable with out serious time commitments and threat of death before even grouping up. The mod seems very focused on grouping and forming survivor bands, ALA Walking Dead like groups. Some way to spawn with friends initially would be great, and really improve that factional struggle between groups.

Fourth. Melee should be a default option. As it is now, you run out of ammo, you are done. There should be some way to fight off the zombies, even if not nearly as effective gun-play, available to every user.

Fith. It is very confusing at times that junk piles can not be searched.

Sixth. Would have been ladders and door interactions. But it seems that ladders are being addressed in the last patch, however doors need some work. They are hard to target, and at times, its difficult to even tell that you can interact with the door. As for the usefulness of doors, see the zombie section above.

Those are some things that my friends and I think are areas that could use some love to improve the experience for all.

Agree with everything (especially the hacker zombies) except for the hability to spawn with a group.

Alot of what you mention are more inherant issues with the ARMA II engine itself

Hi!

Welcome to DayZ!

I would like to address your issues 1 at a time:

1. That's Arma2 for ya. The servers always take a long time to get information to you, because the way Arma is configured it sends information to one person at a time. As you can imagine, this takes a long ass time.

2. The zombies have been addressed in other threads. Do a search to find more info.

3. That's why this is a survival sandbox game. You don't spawn in with your buddies automatically, you have to find them and that takes time. Just the name of the game.

4. I agree with this one.

5. That's because they're decoration.

6. Meh, I don't really have issues with doors...but I'm an Arma2 vet and I'm used to having to look at the door at an angle to interact with it. You'll get used to it.

In short, most of what you take issue with are problems with the Arma 2 engine...and not the mod itself.

Hope I helped a little.

It really would be nice if there were a mix of movement types for the zombies. There are already some that can only crawl, so why not have some that can only shamble as well? As it is with all of them always sprinting, always running at srange angles instead of straight on, it's crazy.

Hay, I'm all for Surviving, and the sandbox game play. Take note, I said Initially spawn with friends.

After all, playing with friends is key to any online game. I just do not think I want to spend 2 hours trying to find my friend who also just joined the game. Perhaps 2 hours is a personal failing, but that does not make it any less of an issue. Not all of us are ArmA players, or familiar with the map. After we join, its fine if we get lost, that is part of the game.

First thing' date=' logging in takes a long, long time. This goes for re-spawning as well. I can go smoke a cigarette and read some news in the time it takes to re-spawn/receive data.[/quote'] This seems to vary from person to person and server and ToD. You've just had some badluck sir, I've managed to get in, in under 30 seconds.

Second. Zombies are too fast at times, and also, quite frequently, feel like I am playing against hackers:

Fast zombies feel like hackers? I don't quite get you.

They do not run, they pop in most cases.

In all my time of playing Dayz I have never seen a zombie pop.

They hit through walls.

Only on some buildings, such as small houses and the garages. You learn very quickly that hugging the wall is a bad idea.

They do not care if a door is closed or not.

Sadly this is an issue, however this is an ALPHA and who knows what the future may bring regarding doors.

There seems to be only one real type. days, rage type

Do the hoppers get no love? What about the belly crawlers?

Shots do not register until seconds after
It doesn't take seconds, maybe a second TOPS on a high ping server. It's something you learn to deal with, and really now the whole one hit can break your legs is gone on full health it isn't much of an issue.
They run in what seems to be a forced curve, but never go where predicted to be.

ARMA2 pathfinding. It's really not hard to force them to run in a single file line.

Third. Grouping with friends-snip-

It's a big map, stay away from the south and set up a meeting point inland, you'll find it alot easier and safer.

Fourth. Melee should be a default option.-snip-

I used to think this, untill I realised, if you pick a fight that forces you to run out of ammo, you've picked the wrong fight. It's much easier to spring away, find a barn and grab a new gun. Than it would be to punch a zombie untill it dies.

Fith. It is very confusing at times that junk piles can not be searched.

Do you mean the piles of tincans. Or the obvious brushwork, because if you've played videogames it's really apparent it's ART.

Sixth. doors

Aiming at the bottom of doors seems to be the easiest way to get a certian open.

Hopefully this awnsers some of your points, experiance in this game seems to be your greatest ally, so always try out new things!

I'm glad you have been able to overcome the flaws worbat.

The piles of junk comment was referring to; Its a pile of junk, one would think that's a prime item to search through in a post apocalyptic world. Its confusing as to why that's not a feature.

But it's so flat and uninviting. Arn't you more interested in the shiny 3D items?

Also alpha.

I know its alpha, That's why I am giving feedback and initial impressions.

Do not use "Its alpha" to suppress feedback, that does no one any good.

Clearly the movement rate is causing issues.

But yeas a larger variety of Zombies would be good. Perhaps even rares.
