Maxxgold (DayZ) 62 Posted July 29, 2012 HFB has all the files locked and you can only edit 3 of your files. So I'm looking for a company that let's you have access to all of the files. You can leave me a private message. It's not really a good experience operating and paying for a server where you don't have any control over the server. I'm running a private server but I would like to keep the public server going just not going to use HFB anymore.

Maxxgold (DayZ) 62 Posted July 29, 2012 I hope you realize that vilayer and host altitude have the same restrictions..........Yeah i do. I just got a PM from a server company that lets you have access to the files. Sorry but I'm not paying for a server to have no control, that's stupid. When DayZ has come and gone people will remember the server hosting companies that didn't let you access your own files and they will do business elsewhere. What's the difference between the guys who pay for their own dedicated server and have access to all their files and the guys who rent a server ??? You just have to spend more money for your own dedicated machine. The server companies need to be true to their customers. DayZ has no clue whether your running a dedicated machine or if your renting a server so really it's not very smart on the server hosting companies to just let you have access to your files. If you do something your not supposed to they can easily shut your server down.

We assign your instance ID, location ID, mission file etc all for you. Another big reason is because we may have 4-6 servers all on the same IP address, if one server gets blacklisted for passwording their server, then all the others get blacklisted too. If you want freedom with the risk of being blacklisted then by all means purchase a VPS or dedicated server. Edited July 29, 2012 by Jonnerz
eggster 1 Posted July 29, 2012 Not to flame nor stir any problems, I understand this reasoning behind the restrictions. But doesn't this put the burden of updating certain server files back on your company for all of your DayZ servers? Why not have your customers go through the registration process, which will allow them to keep the server updated as they need.

Which files would be burdened from updating? I can't speak for other hosts but we can add updates to the control panel and normally do this within 1-2 hours of an updates official announcement. ryahn 112 Posted July 29, 2012 HFB has FTP access to their servers also. The only files that you cant edit are server.cfg, mission file, timezone.bat and a few others.
Maxxgold (DayZ) 62 Posted July 29, 2012 HFB has FTP access to their servers also. The only files that you cant edit are server.cfg, mission file, timezone.bat and a few others. So,, How many servers got blacklisted before you made the change. I'll bet not one. When I first bought my server I had total access and the next day it was gone. Also what happens if someone with a dedicated server purchased from you gets blacklisted ???? What's the difference ???? Basically your just ruining your business by operating this way. I and others will never use your service and you are getting a horrible reputation. I noticed you also removed your Forums from your website, just another indicator of the crappy service your providing. Your afraid that other customers are going to see all the complaints and not use your service. That's shady as hell and no way to run your business.

I am only here trying to correct a lot of the bad things happening.
Falcrist 119 Posted July 29, 2012 (edited) I don't even own a server and I've had multiple server owners express their distaste with HFB. I can see why after playing on one of their servers for a while. The fact that the forums are down at the HFB site isn't at all surprising. You guys are losing a ton of potential business by being terrible. I have not received a ticket yet that the FTP or File Manager is having problems. I know the customer support was horrible in the past but it is getting better as we are trying to get users who are knowledgeable on the game and with servers with staff. I know that Vilayer and Host Altitude do not have forums but I can see if I can get the forums up but I cant guarantee that it will happen but I do understand where some of you are coming from for having a forums. Maxxgold (DayZ) 62 Posted July 29, 2012 You still didn't answer my question about how many severs got blacklisted because of having access to their own files. I would like to know of any. If your a server operator and you used HFB I would like to know if you got blacklisted ? Like I said above it's not fair that a dedicated server operator get access to all their files and we don't. Monitor your users and punish when someone does something wrong. DayZ is full of it with their rules. You can only bend so far before realizing that they are way out of line with their Nazi rules. You have a chance now to make a good name for yourselves. What you do is up to you. If you keep up doing business this way your not going to have a business. ryahn 112 Posted July 29, 2012 Wouldn't it make more sense to lock out that file vs the mass of files you disabled or made accessible via FTP only?Well I just got an update on the file manager. There was an issue with it and it should be fixed now. You should have access to .txt .log files and the server.cfg is set to use only configuration editor
