A noob's next priority - matches and a knife

Ok, so I've done the basics but my next challenge is how to get blood and maintain temperature. I'm aware that eating can help with the blood but I think I need to know how to eat meat (kill -> gut[knife!] -> cook[matches!] -> eat).

I've found loads of wood, so where are the knives and matches? Have seen none so far...

I've only played for 2 days but I've found wood in barns, deer stands and supermarkets.

Matches in supermarkets and some houses.

Knives I've only seen in supermarkets.

you may find fallen survivors in cities as well, which is a decent places to find matches, knives, map, compass

Found matches in the house (apartments) in the larger cities. Same with knives. Have yet to find either in the smaller towns, but that may just be my luck.

Wood in barns, houses, treestands, those red two room, 4 door houses, cow barns.....

It is annoying trying to find matches, I like to spawn and head north but now I have to run around the coast to find matches or I'll catch a cold. I must be a horrible survivor to not be able to start a fire without matches
