wbe886 1 Posted July 28, 2012 just a few questions for community members and DayZ staff. There is a lot of confusion about locking servers, reasons to do so and reasons not to.Surely if the owner pays the money for the server, he has the right to do what he want (before you start typing stuff, im not the owner) yes i understand the view of people could in theory lock it to get the good stuff in The dayZ world, but say if the reasons were that "he" locked it to evac a new group member, or to steading the constant inflow of people, would that not be ok seeing as if "he" is stopping the over powering amount of players which means you would get killed more often, therefore less fun? i dont really know these are just my views, please respond to what your views are on the subject?thanks, wbe886

No, death is a HUGE part of this game. You die, you die. Inflow of people? If your server can't handle it, then you need a better server.

NoRegrets 495 Posted July 28, 2012 but say if the reasons were that "he" locked it to evac a new group member, or to steading the constant inflow of people, would that not be ok seeing as if "he" is stopping the over powering amount of players which means you would get killed more often, therefore less fun?And why should the admin have the rights to do this? Theres no need to evac a group member and just because its an admins group member doesnt matter to all of us ... He plays under the same rules like every other player so does his group ... Hyd 21 Posted July 28, 2012 (edited) Locking servers should be allowed, youre paying for it, your decisions. On the other hand, it should be rules stating that exploiting is not allowed. Like farming veicheles and such. The best thing about locking servers are that small communities of people around the world can make sure that only trusted members play on that particular server. Giving only the access to trusted members will also get rid of the cheater problem, or at least make it far more safe.It will anyway be a small amount of the servers doing this so I don't see the problem with this affecting people playing DayZ who is not a part of this community.Edit: Much like private torrent sites, it works. wbe886 1 Posted July 28, 2012 @Scavenger Yes i also do agree, i think there should be the option of locked servers
Yuna of snakes (MEDIC) 12 Posted July 28, 2012 and why should they not have control over what happens on there server they pay the money yes it might be rockits mod and hes doing a fucking great job at making this mod but the server admins are the ones footing the bill for hosting it for free. I think admins should be alond to do what they want it so what if they want to lock there server and ''get all the best grear'' its still the same as some guy who works for a few days to get the same grear and kills you with it would be the same for me if i hosted dayz as i have my own server i would host it free but it would be hosted on my server so i would want to do what i wanted with it after all its my money which i had paid for the bits to built it my money which pays the power bill to have it on 27/7 so yeah i would want to host it my way not someones elses way sorry but thats just what i think and no before you start saying well dont host it im not but your going to anyway lol let the tolling begin
snafuu (DayZ) 30 Posted July 28, 2012 As was said, locking is never allowed. At this point, you don't have your own server unless it's actually private. When you start a DayZ server, you're donating it to be used to help meet the number of people who want to play. Changing difficulty is still allowed, and admin abuse is still rampant, but neither those nor locking is going to be possible (on most servers, at least) in the future.
