In all honesty, since the mod is in alpha (Yes, I'm actually using that excuse) and since Rocket and the DayZ development team are working on the standalone release of the game, there's no need for a wipe.

The reverse is true also. Since it's alpha there's no reason to want to save people's stuffs. Unless the whole point is to test what dayz is like with shittons of duped gear that is.

When I play DayZ, I view it as training for the "real game" - that is, the standalone release. While attachment to your items and to your characters is an important aspect of the survival theme of the game, it's very hard to maintain that attachment when, in the back of your mind, you know it's all going to disappear eventually, whether by your own stupidity, a bandit raid, or Rocket's almighty Delete key. That being said, the only thing that we're going to be able to take with us when DayZ is released is the experience and knowledge of how the game works. Everything from basic survival concepts (how to eat food, where to find weapons, not to scream loudly into your microphone while you run through Cherno) to more advanced concepts of the game (the art of hiding your vehicles and tents, finding a nice sniping position, how to move quickly and quietly through a city.) That knowledge is worth a lot more than your AS50 and NVGs. After all, if I ran up to a complete noob on the coast and gave him a DMR, he'd probably lose it in five minutes because he wouldn't know how to calculate bullet drop, where to find ammo for it, and how to properly conceal yourself when you're sniping.

This mod is a giant psychological learning experience. Wait until release before you become attached to your guns.

The beginning and end of your post don't really synch. You really want the rarest and most difficult gear in the game to be ridiculously abundant? If you aren't attached to your gear, why wouldn't you want a wipe? Sorry it's a bit late, and I'm ridiculously tired so maybe I'm reading it incorrectly but I'm slightly confused about where you stand.

everyone should dupe, d/c & even script if they want to spawn items. The mod is so terribly buggy & alpha atm that it doesn't really matter. It's probably going to standalone soon anyways so i'm not even relying on any future major updates. Just have fun with the deathmatch + zombies.

- I get all my clan members on shortly after announcement to wipe tents

- We all grab 3 guns each, 1 secondary

-plenty of primary inventory slots for ammo/food plus extra coyote slots

-tents wiped, many tears are shed.. but only for a few minutes while the servers restart, mostly only because we're not in the game anymore.

-load back in, restock tents.

Problem solved?

Personally, I am not greatly attached to any of my weapons, ammunition, or vehicles. If there was a wipe (or I died due to a hacker, or died due to a glitch, whatever the case may be,) I would be slightly disappointed that I have lost everything, as at the moment, I am on my longest life to date, but I would not quit playing DayZ because I lost it all. After all, death is a part of the game, and learning to accept death is an important lesson.

However, just because I don't have a lot of attachment to my character, doesn't mean that I think a wipe is necessary. At this point in the game, there is simply no need for a wipe. If you really want to think about it, there's already going to be a wipe. It'll take place sometime during September, when DayZ is released as a standalone game using the ArmA 3 engine.

I think it would be interesting if we actually saw the total percentage of all items on the Hive servers - for example, whether DMRs make up .03% of all items in-game or something. That would answer your question as to whether or not we need a wipe.

As long as you don't duplicate those items like a complete toolbox, yeah. Totally cool. Why wouldn't it be? That's why I specifically said this is only for when tent duping has been fixed, smartypants.

I dunno.

ITS ALPHA.

Ya know.

Just maybe.

This is the most idiotic response, yet the most common i seem to find on these forums by little fan girls. Their last standing material to use as defense for their beloved mod. The developers have not fixed such a serious bug in the game yet the fact that its in Alpha seems to have something to do with it? Well lets make it beta! Well we made it beta and still no change in the bug. It's a developers job to fix bugs like these as they ruin the game for us and in turn ruin its popularity. Whether its alpha or beta or gamma or whatever the fuck, it makes not a lick of difference. Bugs like these should be fixed IMMEDIATELY, not when the game is tagged with beta.

Dean has hopes that each server will hold 100-200 players some day. With that said, hoarding in a tent will be a thing of the past. Nowhere will be safe.

Another option would be to add more loot spawns up around those areas where people are pitching tenets. More foot traffic = bad for tent city. Just my thoughts

I'm not sure you've seen the tents I have man. I think the NVG figure for players used to be something like 3%, I am sure it's much higher now. Not to mention the hundreds I personally have seen in tents on many different servers. Also, not uncommon for me to find a tent (or several tents with identical inventories) with 20+ ghillies, satchel charges, rangefinders, gps, M136 ammo, etc. You're right though, I would like to see the numbers to see what people are equipped with nowadays but it still wouldn't be indicative of the total number of duped items that need to disappear. I'll see if we can get some updated percentages tomorrow when I wake up, I am barely conscious right now lol.

So why suggest this before tent duping has been fixed? Wouldn't items naturally be lost after tent duping was fixed, since it wouldn't come back on every restart after the fix?

You realize they have finite resources and a small team though right? Do you know how the development process works?

No, as the duplicated tents would still spawn with their contents. I'm sure the fix will not zap existing tents, only prevent the dupe from occurring moving forward. Maybe I'm wrong, I dunno. Also, (and I'm starting to think you skipped the first page here) I mentioned earlier that I thought the tent dupe was addressed with this patch.

Many of these tents are in high traffic areas like the hills around Cherno so the dupers can re-gear after they get killed in PVP.

Say I have an item that has been duped 5 times, I have 5 copies of that item in one tent. One day, the methods I used to copy that item no longer works. Several days later I die with the item in hand, as well as NVG's and all my other precious candy. I now have a limited supply of resources to draw from rather than an infinite one. Over time, those resources would be depleted entirely. There's only two ways to dupe items. One of them (the alt+f4 method) is eventually going to be a bannable offense, the other is the tents. Fix the tents, fix the problem. How do we fix the tents(and cars too I guess)? Does every item in the game need a unique ID? What kind of server load could you expect from that?

Yes, it really depends where you put the resources... it might be personal choice but I would want to target such a game breaking bug, but taking out the respawn button seemed like a better problem to solve!

And who knows, maybe they're working on it, it would be nice to tell us what they are doing and not just add it to a bucket list and kind of HINT what is going on...

It wasn't. The patch fixed broken tents that wouldn't save gear at all, or the tents would destroy the items.

Last post before I crash....those items would not deplete entirely as they most often would be looted by the player who kills you, and on and on and on. Nobody running around in a ghillie and NVGs with all that other candy is dying to zombies, I'll tell you that much. I am not exaggerating when I say I've seen multiple encampments of 10, 20, and once even 30+ tents with dozens of these items in each. So I don't think the problem solves itself, no.

Periodically wiping some all tents/vehicles would probably hurt the legit players most.

The people who actively dupe will only have to do a few crash site/NWAF runs to get one of each item and then dupe the shit out of them again.

I agree though that this is one of the biggest issues atm.

The thrill of the loot hunt is pretty much gone now for me after i found a city of ~20 tents stocked with everything you could ever want.

At first me and my friends thought we had actually raided it, but the tents just had MORE of the same items a day later due to intentional or unintentional duping.

But yea, imo duping is one of the 3 biggest issues atm right after ALT-F4 and ghosting and once it is fixed all characters, tents and vehicles need to be wiped.

Agree with Mr Ford. All tents should be wiped. Not just the tents but all the mil gear and start again with proper spawn rates and no duping. I say that as someone with tents full of all the rare mil grade gear, weapons and ammo. It is killing the game. I can't survive without this gear and the range and night capability it offers because every other player seems to have the same.

Back to the fun days where a winnie was worth having and the mil stuff was as rare as rocking horse shit.

Stated on the first page that this would be useless if the dupe hadn't been fixed. You either have a good few hundred reasons you're against this in some tents somewhere, or you detest the thought of me sleeping at all tonight.

Well after you fix the duping, then whats the point of deleting all the tents? That hardly makes sense. You say its so people have to scavenge for new guns rather than just pick it up from random tent in the middle of nowhere. You forgot about the person who owns that tent and now lost his endgame gear? Chances are that gear isn't even on the same server anymore so he'll need to go scavenge again. Its all about the realism... you seem to want to make it harder for everyone with no real bonus or gain from it... no real fix for anything..
