I liked the game's premise but......

Greetings.

When I knew about ths mod I did some research and I told to myself I found something awesome. But after reading, and reading, and watching videos I notice it isn't what I expected.

I noticed that the game's focus is not actually the zombie apocalypse and surviving it. Far from it, it is your general Free for all deathmatch game with zombies thrown in the middle. Instead of the zombies, your worst worry is gettng sniped from out of nowhere.

Is this the intended purpose for the game?

Do you really think that zombies will be the biggest threat if this ever happened in real life? Honestly?

It's always going to be other humans that will be the biggest danger. A zombie cannot think, plan, coordinate and decieve.

The intended purpose of the game is to give the players the freedom to play how they want, and do what they want.

Do not be discouraged by the amount of player kills you hear about. I am playing a few months, and have gotten killed by players less than anything else. It will take a while to get the hang of the game, loot spots, pvp hotspots and the map, but once you do you will begin to love the game(tbh I enjoyed learning how to play as much as playing, and still learn new stuff with each death).

If you think you will enjoy the game, I say go and play it. I have never played a game(I know its a mod but still) like this before. Ive never gotten so immersed in a game before. This MOD, is better than most triple A titles released today.

I have gotten loads of people playing this and they all loved it. Sure there are bugs, but DayZ is still in its early days. We are here to test after all.

if you are interested in DayZ and think you will like it, don't let the PVP stop you from trying it. Its probably the only game that I dont mind dieing in, because DayZ is like 2 games, getting what you need to survive, and then actually surviving.

Actually I totally like the concept, the mechanics seem to make for a very immersive experience, specially with freinds. Even the so called "banditry" adds tension to the game, but the paranoia seen in most "Let's play" videos make it look like it's getting out of hand. I'm looking forward to buy ARMA II anyways.

You're 100% spot on, unfortunately.

And no, probably not, but it's how it turned out.

Also on this point. Zombies can become a threat. Play Project Zomboid for a prolonged time and tell me that zombies aren't a threat. And those can't even run.

High numbers and lower resources make zombies a threat. You may gain practice in dealing with them, but one mistake can get you in serious trouble.

The lowered weapon damage coupled with the funny path finding, has made it a little more interesting when dealing with them.

No, it is not the FFA deathmatch that you think it may be.

Teaming up creates a situation where the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts, but here in lies the dilemma...

Attempting to team up with strangers creates an game of chicken so to speak. You both know that killing the other has benefits, (basically that you get whatever they have in their pack,) but if you stick together as a team you can probably get more than what simply killing the other guy will achieve. The problem is, the other guy is faced with the same dilemma. And what happens when you start getting that loot that is only available when you team up. The grand loot is there to split 50/50, or for you to take 100% of if you blow the other guy away, or for him to take 100% of if he blows you away.

It is the tension that these situation create that is what "this game is all about."

If it really was just a FFA deathmatch in a zombie arena, you can bet your bottom dollar that the mod would have been drowned out along with all the other FFA deathmatch games out there. Instead, Rocket put the human element front and center as the core gameplay element and now every gamer far and wide has heard of it or is playing it.
