I woke up at the beach, basic equipment and no idea of where I was. It was night time, the stars were out. I looked at the surrounding area, to my left a railway bridge, to my right a small town. I reasoned that I was near Kamenka. I ran in the direction that I thought was north, towards a hill to get away from the town, and the open area of the beach.

I got to the top of the hill and sat down for a minute, trying to get my bearings, and to make a plan. I soon figured that I would go towards Zelenogorsk to raid the store there for supplies, and then head northeast from Zelenogorsk, towards the woods and hide out there.

I looked at the stars trying to find the big dipper but there were too many, and the clouds made it blurry, so I ran in the direction that I felt was north, making minor corrections along the route. I ran for about 30 minutes, stopping each time I got to the open, to make sure that it was safe. For 30 minutes I moved on without seeing any signs of civilisation, I was lost. My sense of direction wasn't what I thought it was, I had no idea which way I had gone, I only knew that I hadn't gone south.

Suddenly I saw the outlines of hangars in the distance, about 100 meters in front of me. I had been heading east, bypassing Komarovo and zigzagging through the area to get to Balota airfield...Crap..well i may aswell get something out of being there, so i headed towards the ATC tower, sneaking past the few zombies there, and heard flies buzzing. A body materialised in front of me, it was a bandit..dead, AKM in his hands, ALICE on his back. Awesome I thought and crept closer, listening for footsteps or other movement around me. Nothing, I took a look at his corpse, "died from unknown causes" was the assesment. I grabbed his backpack and the AKM, he had a compass too... But he had no food at all, no mags for the AKM either. I went upstairs and found another 4 bodies, all dead from unknown causes, and none of them had weapons, backpacks or food. But there was a revolver on the floor and lots of ammo for it, so i switched my makarov out with that, and started heading towards the hangars.

In the first one i found an AK-74, but no ammo, in the second, there was another body, with nothing on him of importance, and an AKM, but no ammo.

So my trip to Balota Airfield had yielded an AKM with no ammo, an ALICE backpack, a compass and a revolver. Well at least I had the compass so I could go in the right direction. I took a compass heading and headed out towards zelenogorsk.

After some minutes of running I got there, followed the highvoltage lines south of Zelenogorsk towards the Store and the parkinglot. Then the moaning started, a Crawling zombie had spotted me and started crawling after me, but I didnt know that, I thought it was a runner, so i sprinted towards the store and more Zombies came after me. I got inside and slammed the door after me, took position in the far end of the store and aimed at the door. The moaning got louder and soon 4 zombies came through the door, my revolver boomed in the night, the muzzleflash lighting up the faces of the zombies, signalling an end to their sorry existence, 4 zombies down. 2 rounds left in the gun, I could hear another zombie, and waited for him. It was the crawler, another shot and it was silent again. I hadn't attracted anymore zombies. I went through the store, found a hunting knife, some food and soda, and most importantly, a Map.

I was pretty well set up, and pleased with myself, I left zelenogorsk for Stary Sobor hoping to find some ammo for the AKM on my back.

The journey was uneventful, except for the fact that one of my friends was close to stary sobor, so we agreed to meet up.

When I got to stary sobor, I saw a flare near the military camp there, I hit the deck and started crawling towards an old abandoned factory building just south east of the tents. I walked slowly up the stairs, and when I got inside, i crawled towards the northeastern end of the building, to take a look at the tents, and the surrounding area.

After a few minutes of looking at the light down there, shots were fired, it sounded like a pistol of sorts, and then it was silent again. The flare went out but I stayed in position. Not soon after I saw a shadow moving in the wooden area just north of the tents. I watched him get into position with a rifle, which rifle I could not see as it was dark, but it was clear that he was a bandit just waiting for someone to go to the tents. I called out that I had seen him, and stated the grid reference that he was in. People called out their thanks, and my friend told me that he was nearby, and would be flanking him while I covered him.

The ruse worked, the bandit got up and ran away. But how far?

I didn't know, but I moved out from the building, intent on getting to the tents, but instead of going straight there, I crawled slowly around the tents, and a 100 meters north of the woods that I had spotted the bandit in. I stood up and walked slowly towards the woods, crouching every 10 meters to have a proper look. He was gone, so I crawled towards the tents, and just as i got to the first tent my friend said he was in position in the woods and would try to cover me as best he could. I went to the first tent and found a G17 with 4 mags, and switched out my revolver for that, looked around me and spotted an MP5 with 2 mags, well better than my AKM with 0 mags I thought, so i grabbed that and crawled through all the other tents, I found 2 AKMs with no ammo, and 2 AK-74 with no ammo, so I got out of there and met up with my friend. He had an M14 but wanted to switch, so we switched weapons, and headed to Novy sobor to raid the barns there for wood and matches as we were getting cold.

A quick trek there revealed woodpiles and matches, we ran north towards the woods to get some cover, and on the way there we found a goat which we shot and gutted.

We were set for the night, we made a campfire and cooked our meat, and got warmed by the fire. Suddenly we heard a rustle in the bushes, we put out the campfire and hit the deck, slowly crawling to cover, shots were fired, a bandit was firing at where we had been. His muzzleflashes revealed his position and i fired off 3 rounds. His deathcry was loud in the darkness, I covered my friend while he went over to make sure he was dead, the MP5 made sure the bandit would never wake up again. We looted his corpse and made camp for the night.
