A nuclear war prior to DayZ?

Yes, I know. There has been an outbreak; an infection.

But I'm thinking, in the midst of the desperation.. maybe the superpowers tried annihilating this threat? As a last resort. Seeing as we're in Chernarus, this might be where the infection started. We all woke up somewhere on the beach.

Did we survive a nuke? Did we arrive on a boat?

I'm thinking that there has to be some radiation involved, because the world is not very vibrant regardless if you have full health or not.

You can always notice a minor lack of color. This might just be an optic illusion though. Thoughts?

Yes there is radiation and if you play for more than a month without dieing you die from cancer

Apparently Rocket wants to add a background to the Dayz setting, but not have a story to follow - IE you create your own story.
