kicked for a ping of 94.

Recommended Posts

Not sure, 90 is more than acceptable. General rule of thumb for a BE MaxPing threshold is 250 - 325ms.

Some admins set it lower but I tend to err on the side of trying to allow Australians connect to our server.

Anything above 325 though...sorry, see you another day maybe.

I joined a game eariler with a ping of 78

Got kicked instantly for having a ping of 2000 (according to the game)

It even said that the admin personally kicked me.

There were 3 people in the server, my guess is that it was him and his clan or something

Its not uncommon as players load into a server lobby that their ping is much higher than its base latency actually is. If someone was looking at the list and saw 2000 ping, its possible they just kicked you without waiting to see if your connection eased down to its actual ping to server.

I rarely watch my lobby though. I just update player data on Arma 2 RCon on my laptop rather than bother dropping to lobby to check latencies, plus the RCon client is far more accurate than the lobby seems to be.

The title says it all. I'm so confused, why would a ping of 94 be a problem?

I have never understood this, I think it's a pile of shit myth, especially when people start saying how you're lagging out everyone on the server. It's worse for the player with the ping than those shooting at him, unless he's deliberately screwed with his upload speed and you see him warping around all over the place but it's fine on his screen, but I've not seen that for years.

Unless it's a professional match, then there's really no need. Hell, in the old CoD united offensive days (The ORIGINAL cod, not the kiddie crap now) the clan that I lead took the top spot in the world for the domination game type and we played away from home on an american server (we were EU except for one US member) and we all had pings of 180 while they were 30-40.

Still, with that said, I find the ping that's higher dayz is FAR more unresponsive due to the nature of the game than it would be in a regular game. Maybe that's just me but it still never feels completely smooth even with a 10-15 ping, I'd hate to see 150+. TBH, that's more with the engine I think and I can't say I'm too fond on the Arma engine.

Yeah considering it says this in the dayz readme file:

"On top of that during tests the server has given high bandwidth to players with pings ranging from 10 to 300+ meaning anyone can play and not slow the server down or feel at a disadvantage."

Not sure if that refers to some kind of auto bandwidth allocation based on a player's ping or something...

94 is high, i don't join a server that has a ping higher than 25.

I saw a russian server the other day with a ping cap of 90. Surely must've been to keep the player count down without totally keeping it from the public. Must've been a pretty decent server considering I'm in the UK.

I didn't manage though. I had a "godawful" ping ranging from 91-95.
