I need a mic for dayz however, I don't want to buy one, could I possibly use my old xbox mic

You can use a wired xbox controller yes. Just change your recording input device.

I'm using an iPhone with a free app called "Megaphone". It's not perfect but it works.

Yes it can. It is just a microphone headset. So long as your PC has the correct input jack for the headset.

Go to the supermarket and pickup a cheap Logitech.

A Logitech headset+mic is around $7 and does the job great, minus some of the comfort some expensive headsets have.
