How I solved the AMD "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" issue

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to make a quick post what worked for me when dealing with the dreaded "Display driver stopped responding and has recovered" issue. I have a AMD Radeon 7600 and Arma 2/Dayz was crashing every once in a while for me, especially at the loading screen. The main window would freeze, become black and then a popup in the taskbar would have the above message. I would have to restart ARMA in order to login again.

I was using AMD catalyst control center 12.6 when that happened. Updated to 12.7, same thing.

Then I uninstalled all AMD drivers. Then used the free version of "DRIVER FUSION" to remove all residual AMD driver and dll files, downloaded at http://treexy.com/products/driver-fusion

Rebooted, then I installed the 12.3 version of AMD catalyst and... no more crashes! Works fine now.

Hope this helps a few equally frustrated ones out there. Good luck.
