The Grizzby 3 Posted July 27, 2012 So I was thinking about the dynamics of DayZ, and I understand that under the ARMA 2 engine its probably not be possible, but I was thinking about weather. Mostly seasonal weather and seasons themself. If the game is made a standalone, as I have been hearing (which would be..... DONT SAY IT.... amaziiiiiiiinnnng), hopefully the engine could provide support for seasons. Or when creating a server, choosing the season. If implemented as a default setting, a season could last about two weeks or so in real time. Seasonal weather could be as follows. Also, any suggestions for or against the seasons and their influence is always awesome.Fall. Pretty much the current DayZ, overcast a great deal of the time, rains often, foggy, etc.Winter. This would be the most intresting, snow would blanket the majority of the ground, less under trees and towns would glisten or have ice you could slip on. Also visibility would be lessed due to snow drift and wind would kick up wisps of snow. Winter weather could also introduce new clothing, such as arctic camo, or an arctic gillie suit. Also winter clothing would be intresting, perhaps a common find throughout civilian spawns, this would be needed to help maintain temprature, as in winter it would be nice cool to have a dropping tempratue when standing still, slow on a clear day, and if its snowing/blizzard your temprature would drop quickly.Spring. Similar to fall, however, the lighting would be brighter, greens greener as well as less rain. The visibility would be higher due to less overcast, less fog etc. Also spring could spawn flowers or more folliage to provide more cover or symply higher variance in the scenery.Summer. The summer would be obviously hot and for it there could be a few things to look out for. The heat would rise your body temprature and because of that your character would loose thirst faster. If wearing winter clothing, your character could overheat and you have to cooldown by either going back to civilian clothing and 'chillin' for a spell, or go for a swim and cool in the water. The heat would also reduce visibility, as in the distance the heat would cause mirages, or that blur you see from the heat radiating. Rain would be very scarce, and folliage and plants would be a duller green and brown, and some plants would not even render.

derrida (DayZ) 18 Posted July 27, 2012 really cool idea for standalone, if it happens...this is one of those things that could make the game even more amazing
Bobcomss 189 Posted July 27, 2012 Good idea, was thinking this myself! hopefully someone takes note in the future :)This would affect zombies as well with Winter being the worst for them:-Winter - .Slow movement speed.Increased hearing due to crunching snow.Falling down on ice????????????????AJ
twinturbonet (DayZ) 294 Posted July 29, 2012 (edited) Good idea. I was actually coming online now to post something similar to this in a question form. I did a search and your thread popped up. I got into a game last night and it was dusk, I only had a few minutes to play though. This afternoon (12:10 est) I got on a server and it was pitch black! I mean, so dark I couldn't even play lol. I assume the weather is based on whatever the server's time is and not a "game/all servers wide" thing.Meaning, if it's dark in one server it won't be the same in another server?
