HOWTO: Arma 2/OA Steam Owners: Launch DayZ Without Steam

Recommended Posts

I'm sure people don't mind going through steam to launch arma, but I found it bothersome to have to make so many clicks just to launch Arma in Combined Ops. So I made a little shortcut workaround that not only makes it a single click, but you don't even need steam to be running to play it.

Go to your Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead dir and make a shortcut to ArmA2OA.exe where ever you like, I pinned it to my taskbar.

Right-click on the new shortcut and go to Properties.

In Target add " -nosplash -nointro "-mod=C:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2;EXPANSION;@dayz""

Substitute the arma 2 mod path for yours, leaving in the wrapping quotes for -mod, but take out the set that wrap the whole switch line

You should now have a working, single click shortcut, to DayZ.

I like to use BTK's icon for my shortcut.

NOTE:Revised with info from TheGent, I over-complicated it for noobs(BUT I STILL LIKE THE CLEANER LOOK OF ENV. VAR. COME AT ME GENT)

Does this work if you have the beta version?

Or if anyone else knows how to set it up to run without steam with the beta - now required for 1.7.1 - I would greatly appreciate a walk through.

Assuming I can figure out how to fix the "dayz_code requires cabuildingparts" probem that is.
