Menu glitch

Date/Time: May 22nd, 1 AM -8 GST

What happened: I was getting some FPS lag, so I decided to alt tab. Previously though my rifle started firing off when I alt tabbed, so I opened the menu to prevent revealing mine and my friends location in case of bandits. When I returned to the game after pausing a virus scan, the "You are dead" sign appeared and I was killed. My friends around me heard no gun shots, there was nothing that could have killed me.

What you were doing: Laying prone next to the wall, with the menu open.

*Timeline of events before/after error: We were crawling up towards Devil's castle to investigate sounds of a firefight, about 10 minutes later we reached the southern side of Devil's castle, where the broken section of wall is, I started dipping to 4-5 FPS and decided to check if there was something causing me lag, I pressed escape to prevent my enfield from firing while I wasn't in game, I come back to the game, find I'm dead due to unknown causes.
