Killerbeavis 1 Posted July 26, 2012 This is my idea, for the stand-alone game of course due to the fact it wont work for the Arma II set-up.Basic tl;dr: This is an idea to have multiple different customizations to allow more variability in weapons and to also create more player assistance to eachother. Picture you having a DMR and a silancer for an AK. what do you do? you find someone with an AK and they have a silancer for a DMR. why not a trade?Customizable Items-Silancer-Scope/sight-Others due to weapon typeAll items should of course be more rare then the weapons.SilancersOf course all silancers are not the same. So it would be a great thing to have different silancers due to the muzzle size and abilities. It would be interesting to have this as an option other then finding the little amount of weapons that have the silancer, and also you can use the same ammo that is used for the normal weapon like a realistic weapon. The silancer obviously works the same as the ones in the game, but based on the item attached to it. Like reducing the sound of an AK by 70% so it can still be heard, but much less. And with a sniper, we do not have any silanced snipers in the game right now, so it would be a nice addition.Scope/SightThere should be a good amount of different sight options. And it would make sence to have many different sights for an AK, have the Kobra based reflex sight, and you can use that for the 74, the 74u and others, then even have an ACOG for the AK's aswell. Same with the M4/M16 weapons. With the snipers you can add different zoom scopes, All have a basic lets say 1x/4x scope, and you can get a 1x/4x/8x/12x scopes. And with the LMG's there can also be such sight ideas.OthersFor a shotgun you can have stocks to reduce recoil, and maybe muzzles to alter spread (there should be shotgun spread).I know this may sound like a COD kiddie type post, but I honestly say it would be a good addition and it would cause a nice variety of gameplay and weapon variability. If anyone has more to add to this suggestion please do.
Thortimer 37 Posted July 26, 2012 I like the idea, but why not a step further. Most weapons in the game are disassembled/damaged you have to find the correct parts to get them to work. Like you found an akm that is assembled except for a firing pin. On your travels to the NWAF you find a box of firing pins. Now you have a working akm. Killerbeavis 1 Posted July 26, 2012 (edited) I like the idea, but why not a step further. Most weapons in the game are disassembled/damaged you have to find the correct parts to get them to work. Like you found an akm that is assembled except for a firing pin. On your travels to the NWAF you find a box of firing pins. Now you have a working akm.The two problems I see with this is:1- There will be impatiant people that see it and just pass it by waiting for a proper gun, one that they dont need to spend another 2 hours to get it working. It would be nice for high level weapons where it is a prize to locate all the parts to make it a perfect gun2- It jumps a little too far from the game, my idea does jump but not to such extent. With needing to fix every weapon you find it takes out the whole part of finding a weapon that can do some good damage and feeling great about yourself and makes you feel somewhat secure. Also when you work your way to lets say stary, you have already put yourself into a high traffic area where you can easily be killed by camping snipers, so you should be able to recieve a fair prize for succeeding. Not just walk in, find an AKM, be excited, then find out you cant use it until you go to another high traffic area to POSSIBLY get the item you need to get it working. grezvany13 56 Posted July 26, 2012 Although it's not possible with the current ARMA2 engine, it will be possible if DayZ is ported/updated to ARMA3!And since both engines are (basically) the same, it shouldn't be to hard to do so.I haven't found any source that DayZ will become a stand-alone game (only rumors and discussions), or will be ported to ARMA3. However, since both Rocket and other BI devs have stated that bugfixes and ideas from the DayZ code have been used at the source of ARMA3, so it should be possible. As for the idea itself; I like it, although it would make the game even more difficult to learn for starting players. Killerbeavis 1 Posted July 26, 2012 As for the idea itself; I like it, although it would make the game even more difficult to learn for starting players. The game is currently designed to have new players come on and figure out everything on thier own. And with it just being the added customizations, the new players can still pickup a normal weapon and kill with it. While the veterans can get the additions to make the game more interesting for themselves and make more interesting firefights
