Eyefinity anyone?

Is anyone out there trying to play this awesome mod with Eyefinity?

I have a triple screen setup (5870x1080) but am not able to play with a decent frame rate :( I have AA and AF completely disabled, shadows to high, all the rest set to nomal. Still, it's almost impossible to get FPS greater than 20 (no matter how low the ping is).

My hardware is 2500k @ 4,4 GHz, AMD 6970, 8 GB RAM on a Gigabyte UD3-P.

I know, Eyefinity is a framerate killer, but not being able to use my three "babies" is a little bit sad.

Anyone having any idea what can be done?

I'm running an eyefinity setup with DayZ, and my hardware is mostly similar to yours.

ASUS 23" LCD x 3

2500k - No OC yet ;)

ASUS P8Z77

8 GB of RAM

Radeon HD 7950 x 1

It seems to chug along just fine, but I don't max all my settings and I also don't put on AA. It's just way too much of a hog to run max'd. I was getting bad frame rates but I didn't check what they actually were, I chose to bump it down instead. I'm a sure a second 7950 would make a big difference.

Once I get a handle on the game I am going to try and tweak my settings. I'm too paranoid to sit and mess with video settings risking myself being killed. I'll have to run into a quiet forest somewhere and tinker :lol:

I think my resolution and 3D resolution is set to 6180x1200ish ? I'll let you know what my settings are in more detail when I get a chance. I'm just going off the top of my head atm.

If anything I wanted to let you know that someone is also going through the same thing, and I'm glad you posted because I don't feel alone anymore. I was pretty bummed when I found out I couldn't run it max'd.

I'll have to read into that link above a little more as well.

I forgot to comment on how my side monitors ( I have a 3 x 1 setup) are slightly distorted.

Basically if I'm crawling in grass and I pick up a zombie on my right monitor, he looks waaaaaay closer than he actually is. I didn't notice the distortion at first when I started playing, but I'm noticing it a lot more now.

I'm not kidding the difference in game is probably at least 20m in space. When I try to low crawl into supermarkets on the edge of town I'm constantly getting a feel for zombies being right on my ass when they pop into my peripheral view. Then I do a quick double Alt tab to free look (to put the zombie on my main monitor) and confirm they aren't as close as my monitor makes them appear.

It's almost as if my screens are appearing stretched.

I suspect that it could be a resolution issue, but I haven't tried any setting changes yet. I'm having waaay too much fun playing this highly addicting game.

I'm pretty used to it now, and I almost like it because it makes me far more aware of how close zombies actually are.

Has anyone else seen something like this?

As far as performance goes, try lowering your filter qualities first. Next, try lowering your 3D resolution. Texture quality and Model (Mesh) quality shouldn't be that big of a deal, more of a video mem issue (but your 6970 should have 1-2GB, which is decent).

Streching on the outer monitors - this is a result of the renderer only using 1 camera (honestly, I don't know of any eyefinity games that address this stretching issue). Essentially, the FOV (Field of View) on the camera, when playing a game on one screen is somewhere in the ballpark of 55 - 65 degrees. This creates a nice picture, minimal stretching, and objects in the distance are the "correct" scale. When playing on 3 monitors, the game compensates with a much much wider FOV so that the center screen still appears to have that nice 55-65 degree FOV look. The end result produces a stretched look on the outer monitors. No real fix for this.
