Respawn death?

Ok so I just got this game and played for like an hour and a half and I fell like 3 feet in a barn after I finally found my first firearm. Bleeding, pain, and broken bone--so I was able to fix the first two but I have never encountered morphine yet--so I was SOL. I Crawled for like 25 mins to a town and couldnt find much so I decided to respawn from esc menu. I respawned into water and instantly died-WTF?!?!?!

So I lost all my stuff for nothing, I literally fell like 3 feet it was hardly even a fall--and I break my leg--then I just click a button in the menus and I lose all my stuff and char? It really sucks because Im afraid this kind of thing will happen again.

Is this common? If this is part of the game then I feel like I wasted my time and money.

You have to be carefull. The breaking leg system is broken. Wait for a fix

Ok that answers one question. What about when I clicked respawn from the esc menu? Is it some kind of newb filter button? Why would that even exist--it literally just killed me.

the respawn button is there to kill you. you only get 1 life in dayz if you die you start over. so it did its job.

If you chose to respawn you would have lost all your stuff anyway.
