What would cause everyone on the server to respawn on a beach?

A friend reports that while playing on a server, everyone suddenly transported to a beach and proceeded to kill each other.

is this yet another console hack or is this an admin screwing around?

After a mass teleport of the server population last week, we all reappeared on the beach after relogging.

Hackers can also spawn you high in the air. Feel lucky that they didn't do that and that people lived that ordeal.

abort from the server ASAP.
