Installation convoluted and results in loss of hair, help before I stab a puppy

Recommended Posts

So after downloading ArmA 2: combined Ops, I mosey on over to the DayZ website here, click download, decide to opt for the torrent which gives me a folder full of files called 'DayZ-1.7.2.3'

now there is NO guide on the download page although it references some NON-EXISTENT readme in the torrent.

So after googling "DayZ torrent install", I find a youtube video showing me how to do it, now the guy in the video torrented a folder called '@DayZ', as opposed to my 'DayZ-1.7.2.3', so I proceed to stick my folder in the same directory as he did with @DayZ (progfiles(x86)/steam//steamapps/common/arma 2 operation arrowhead), now he shows me how to open the properties of Operation Arrowhead in steam and set the launch options. I notice that he types in (space)-mod=@DayZ, so I decide to rename the folder with my files to @DayZ instead of DayZ-1.7.2.3, then I proceed to change the Launch Options as described in the video.

So now upon Launching Operation Arrowhead, I find several servers running DayZ with good pings BUT I can't join because "Bad Version, Server rejected connection", now I look to my bottom right corner and see 2 boxes, one says Version: 1.62 and the other says (in red font) required: 1.62.95310, which, as I can tell from the name of the torrent, is a PREVIOUS version (yes /no?!?!?)

Ok so the manual install is too complicated and doesnt work, I'll relent and use their SixUpdater thingie.

Now I've opened Six Launcher and find a server with low ping (worst server browser ever, btw, no filters?), now I assume that the Launcher will install and update to the required verison, now i can see that there is an update bar underneath the install button on the left, but it just sits there forever saying "verifying Beta" until finally a dialogue box pops up saying "Unhandled exception during Update, Exhausted all hosts"

f**k this, honest to god f**k this, this is the most frustrating mod to play in the world, and I've downloaded and successfuly installed hundreds of mods in my time.

---> Could somebody please point me to where I can find the APPROPRIATE version (1.62.95310????)

---> Could somebody tell me the PRECISE location to put the files and under what PRECISE folder names?

---> Could somebody then tell me the PRECISE procedure for enabling the mod in steam/in game. I would prefer to use ArmA: Op Arrowheads server browser to launch the mod, but i'll use that shitty Six Launcher if I have to and you know how to make it work.

Thanks in advance

Try this guide:

http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/43473-dayz-from-steam-in-a-few-brief-and-simple-steps-no-third-party-programs-such-as-sixupdater-all-in-all-granting-better-experience/

But conceptually:

The @dayz fold should also have an addons folder I is it. This is where you UNZIP the days files. They turn into... Pro and bi files, I think?

What you are struggling with, many people also struggle with. You should be updating your dayz files (a while after new releases. If you do it too fast, there won't be many servers), but in addition, Arma is moving forward with beta content that Dayz can take advantage of.

That is why you see the red version. It's not the dayz version, it's the version of Arma 2.

So, you make the dayz add on work by dropping those files into that @dayz\addons folder in Operation Arrowhead.

You make the beta work by copying the arma2oa.exe executable from the beta directory into the main directory (after extracting the zip you downloaded and running that installer esecutable). This fools steam into running the beta executable instead of the old one.

To make it all work, you have to put in certain launch options, and you can add others that will help.

Check out that guide. I've referred more than a few people to it.

Good luck.

I've just read this guide on this forum, and I've executed it word for word,

STEAM INSTALLATION

1) Download both ARMA 2 and ARMA 2: Operation Arrowhead through Steam.

2) Run the game once before proceeding.

3) Download DayZ Mod files. http://armafiles.info/dayz/

4) Make a folder named "@DayZ" in your Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead directory.

5) Inside "@DayZ" folder create another folder named "Addons". It should look like this: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\@DayZ\Addons

6) Unpack all DayZ Mod files in the "Addons" folder.

7) Go to Steam and right click Arma 2: Operation Arrowhead, go to 'Properties', 'Set Launch Options', add "-mod=@dayz -nosplash" without quotes in the target line and click OK. You can find other launch options, like windowed mode here: http://community.bis...rtup_Parameters

8) Run Operation Arrowhead and select "Launch ARMA 2: Combined Operations" to play the game.

If everything is installed correctly you should see "@dayz" line under "ArmA 2" on the right side of the menu screen.

Use the filter to find DayZ servers

So after doing all that, when I run Operation Arrowhead I first get a pop up before it initialises saying: "Addon 'day_anim' requires 'CA_Dubbing_Counterattack'"

Then AFTER it has initialised, an ingame popup over the main menu says: "No entry 'bin\config.bin/CfgVehicles/Citizen1.scope'"

aaaaaand of course multiplayer wont work or join. So much for using forum guides.

Please anyone elaborate on wtf has happened?

Thanks Disgraced and Stinky I'm trying your methods now.

In regards to Disgraced's post and the link they provided: http://dayzmod.com/f...ter-experience/

I was able to start connecting after downloading and installing that patch, however the server told me i was missing critical downloadable content, now I've re-downloaded all the .rar files there and extracted them to the appropriate folder, what about the .txt files? are they neccesary to get the game working?

The game STILL comes up with the error messages from the above post, and I STILL can't join a server because: "it is dependant on downloadable content that has been deleted.chernarus"

so i'm missing whole files EVEN THOUGH i downloaded EVERYTHING that the linked guide has said.

f**k

WHY????????????

Is the downloadable content the chernarus map? Usually a sign that you're not running combined operations..

Are you running from within steam?

Well when i get kicked out of a server im trying to join, it says dependant on downloadable content.chernarus

I have combined ops through steam and I am running it through steam

Also the other error messages i get before and after initialisation must be related to missing files as well

I'll second what Disgraced is saying.

So you installed ArmA 2 and Arma 2 OA. Downloaded DayZ, Downloaded the latest beta patch, unpacked DayZ to /steamapps/common/arma 2 operation arrowhead/@DayZ/Addons/, ran beta installation file, copied and replaced arma2oa.exe from /expansion/beta/ to /steamapps/common/arma 2 operation arrowhead/, right clicked on properties for ArmA2OA in steam and selected launch options, where you then put -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion -mod=@dayz, and then made sure to select combined ops when running through steam?

yes, as surprising as it may seem, I have done each and everyone of those things precisely

I get one error message before initialisation, one at the in game menu, and one after ive been kicked out of trying to join a server, all seem to be related to missing files.

can you paste what exactly the errors say? or take screenshots?

if you did everything what Jimmy James listed you shouldn't be having this problem (missing content).. maybe you missed a step or made a typo or something

Try properties menu from steam again, local tab, verify integrity of local cache. You'll probably have to reinstall the beta patch after doing so.

If this doesn't work I'd delete and reinstall arma, try the whole thing again.

You're totally positive you're not clicking on private military company, or arma 2 in steam right?
