Unknown Error Message

Hey guys, I am new to this game, and am still not 100% sure I installed everything correct. Bear with me, but I did go through the common error thread and did not find my problem in it. Anyway when I click or\n a Dayz server to join on the Dayz screen it starts to load, even switching to the next screen with the military base and tanks, however goes back to the main screen and has an error message stating "bad serial number given in setup." I am confused on what I missed, or what I need to do, as I am new to this.

What versions of the game have you installed? (ArmA 2 Retail or ArmA 2 Free etc..)

If you are running through steam run steam as an administrator to see whether this changes as it seems to be a fix for several people with similar problems. Also, try running the ARMA2OA.exe as admin.

I downloaded the arma2 and arma2 operation arrowhead games through steam, then I downloaded six updater and launcher, and that is all up to date....however when I search for the dayz mod in the six updater it says "not compatible" or something to that affect which is probably where the problem is, however I do not know how to fix this
