How do you protect against...

Recommended Posts

Okay so a few times now, i've decided that enough was enough and that this time im going to be the guy in cherno killing people.

I've done this twice now, and each time i've been killed the same way. I hear movement, so I am immediately cautious, if im on the highest point i lie down, if there is windows i lie down, i watch the only points of entry.

Then all of a sudden bang bang, shot in the back, someone has logged in behind me.

I can guess it was a server hopper and i got unlucky, but with the movement heard beforehand?

I'm thinking that people are switching servers, going behind me, logging back on the server and then shooting me in the back.

I dont have anyone to watch my back when im being an ass, cause my friends dont really agree with it, but eventually you have to cull the herd!

Any tips for protecting against this kind of situation?

Go to cherno in a group :)

Seems the obvious answer was too obvious.

There is no protection against ghosting.

Sorry man, we can only hope that somehow it will be patched.

1) When someone is logging in, there is usually about a 10 second window during which they are not truly logged in but where they appear in game. I get this despite an average ping of less than 20 and the fastest possible broadband speed available in the UK, so I suspect that it affects other players rather longer than it does me. Kill them during that time. So anyone who has logged in behind you has not just appeared by magic - if you would have looked where they logged then you'd find them.

2) Keep mobile, or else keep checking the back rooms of the building you're camping.

3) if you do camp a building, you'll hear movement on the floor boards.

4) If you go out 'hunting' other players without allies, you will almost always get killed. Without a guy to watch your back, you're a free kill to anyone coming from any direction that isn't where you're looking.

The rooftop i was camping has alot of metallic large objects on it, vents that looks to be part of an air conditioning unit and pipes etc, he could have logged behind one of those then those seconds before hes in doesnt do me much good. Unless we go to point 2, which then just means i failed cause i was lay down cause i heard movement :P

Failure in itself, but ghosting is still euhh. Got my just desserts for being the knob in cherno!

To be honest there isn't a real technique to protecting yourself in that sort of situation you are in on that building. I would only suggest you find another position perhaps.
