ReyDeLaLuna 6 Posted July 26, 2012 (edited) My group and I just had what was the most intense videogame experience any of us had ever had. My group and I hit the church in search of supplies and a rendevous point for some other people we were meeting. When we ran into the church, we found a random pubber, Shifty. We tell him we are friendly and even give him an AK, AMMO, and some steak and pepsi. He says he is happy to meet some people who werent dicks. While we were getting to know our new friend, another one of our boys heads towards the school with a crowbar. He tells us that he has seen a group of people and that they heard us at the church. He gets to us, and a few seconds later we hear "This is the new world order, come out with your hands up"We proceed to yell back and forth as they tell us they surround the church. They make a few attempts to enter, and a few very brief, very intense shootouts take place. During one of their assaults, 2 of our 5 men get taken out. This sends the remaning survivors into a tizzy. With both sides yelling various obscenities and cliches, i remember that i have a frag grenade. I yell something to the tune of "Why dont you come get some of this" and toss it. It explodes, the direct comm becomes a torrent of chatter trying to figure out what has just happen. They back off for the moment, and our group has found a true brother in Shifty, who helped us hold the ground. After a long period of quiet, we learn that they have set up an overwatch on the firestation. They make several more assaults, one of which claims my life, my friends life and even Shifty. Shifty, who told us that he had just wanted to find food and maybe a Makarov. All of these events take place over the course most tense hour and a half of any videogame i have ever played. There were moments where we had our guns trained on the door for twenty minutes, waiting for the inevitable hail of bullets that would claim our lives. Little did we know, that was just the beginning. The remainder of the night would see Electro turn into a warzone, the focal point being the church. The point of this story isnt to bash the new world order, in fact it is to praise them. Roleplaying game-stuff aside, the group i was with has said that it was the craziest, most unpredictable, intense, but most importantly, most fun that any of us had ever experienced in a video game environment. My mouse hand was literally quivering as our groups traded volleys of bullets, broken up with volleys of insults and failed negotiation. I lost a full toolbelt and arsenal, and i did it with a smile on my face. Thanks for everyone who was involved and thanks to the devs for taking the chance and making something so unique, the people of /vg/ truly admire your work. Emergent gameplay is real, it works, and it's fun. Here is a video of the second of many shootouts, which claimed the life of Jake, friend of Shiftty. It was created by ToxtethRed, who led the second defense of the church. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RlBjnBlOr7U&feature=youtu.be Edited July 26, 2012 by ReyDeLaLuna
Chiron 23 Posted July 26, 2012 Dat story.Nice. I'm jealous of not being there for this. This game brings out the best (best?) of the gaming world and offers some of the most engulfing situations a video game can.
Psyl3nt 125 Posted July 26, 2012 (edited) Definitely the sort of thing that shows how this mod shines out amongst all the rest. Thanks for taking the time to put this up on the forums. It also shows all the naysayers what the game can be like. Edited July 26, 2012 by Psyl3nt

Exo (DayZ) 8 Posted July 26, 2012 This whole thing was without a doubt THE most intense game I've ever played. We actually started the night as nothing but users in the same Teamspeak. You can see me in the video, I'm the coyote pack at the videographer's feet. I got shot when they opened the doors. Little did they know, they would not see the last of me. After my death, I spawned at Balota and rushed to Elektro. Once I got there 15 minutes or so later, I booked it to the firestation to find a weapon and save my still-pinned friends. I heard gunshots from the roof so I slowly started climbing the stairs. Inside I found a hatchet on a dead body and upon reaching the top floor I found the gunman. He was with the "New World Order" providing overwatch with an AKM. I hatcheted him to death, the server said "Alex" was killed. I tried to get outside to flank the New World Order with the AKM but was killed by a glitch with the back door of the firestation.About half an hour later, there was another bloodbath outside the church. A recent friendly with no weapons named Fyodor had walked by us in the Bar, so we invited him over and got him suited up with an AK and some tools. Then we met Alex again. He came up with a hatchet and said he was friendly, so we let him stay for a moment. He started bragging about how many people he killed from the firestation and it clicked. I immediately told the group that this was the "overwatch" that was gunning them down, and he was promptly dropped with a lee enfield shot from Lodoss. For the record, lodoss is a pretty good shot with the enfield and when he came up on the church the first time after his death he saw Tox outside and shot him in the head. He was greif stricken of course, but all was well on both sides. The story ends in a depressing way. After seeing "Alex" die several times, we knew he was trying to get an Elektro spawn. We were running out of Elektro to head up north and as we passed the general store, we were drowned in a hail of gunfire. I made it out with nothing but shock but Lodoss and Fyodor were killed. I ran around the store and hid behind the counter. The shooter was calling me in direct chat, and for some reason I thought I would play the game in a nice manner. I told him very calmly over chat that I meant no harm and I crouched and double tapped Ctrl to put my AK down. I walked outside of the store and told him that I would continue looking north so that he knew I meant him no trouble. I told him he could have any of my gear or medical supplies, to which he replied "I'll take it all" and I was fired upon with a full AK clip. I had -58000 blood but I was still able to see in-game, and the last thing I saw was Alex saying "Bitch." It shows how low people will go to abuse respawn mechanics to exact their firey revenge. Regardless, this night will go in the history books as it is likely to be the best time I have EVER had in DayZ.I guess the idea is that if you see someone, instead of killing them, try being kind instead. I used to be slightly hesitant to lose my gear, but then I realised that you're always going to lose it. I figure you might as well have a great time while you have it. We paid it forward to one man tonight, and we were rewarded with hours of gunfights, tense negotiations, and a few accidents along the way.Pay it forward, survivors. It's the right thing to do, and you'll be happy you did.
