So, I've been playing a while and I don't see how to get better...

Recommended Posts

I'll take any help I can get. I don't see how people have camps stocked to the brim with two of everything they'd ever need. My friend and I have tried to countlessly looted Eletkro and Cherno then tried to head north for Stary and the Airfield in order to find the "better" weapons. The problem is this takes a long time on foot. I got lucky and found a pickup only to have a car spawn-in underneath said pickup which exploded killing us both. I know the basics, I know where to get basic stuff, but I could use a little help figuring out how to reach the Veteran equipment and stockpiles. Thanks in advance.

It takes time. Going by foot is really your only option.

Are you getting killed by other players each time you set out? Or zombies?

Are you just having trouble finding the loot or trouble keeping it? More details bro.

You don't need camps, that's just a hassle. Invest time to learning on the farm spots, or kill some people on Elek sniper hill. Check Stary, run around it for heli's and maybe the barracks at NW Airfield if you want to spend time travelling for gear.

I'm no expert, still pretty new myself, but I learnt well enough in the first day or so that going inland is what it's all about. Spawn, get some basics, then head North - the coast is just for short term, PVP blood baths.

Once you head North into the wild, scout out towns carefully and just search everywhere you can. It'll be more deserted up there, but still be wary of who's around.

Don't hit up the NWAF (North West Air Field) until you're really keen, as it's nearly always occupied by someone looking for sniper kills. But there, and other places up North, are where you'll find the good gear.

Find a tent, find somewhere isolated and not often traveled by, and then try setting up your 'base' with a tent stocked with the essentials.

It all takes time, luck and, usually, a few sets of boots working together.

Goodluck.

Honestly it's probably an even mix but less so on the zombies. My friend and I are able to lose zombies indoors and on hills but we seem to be very susceptible to strange occurences with other players. Playing at night I was in the tower at the Airfield near Begota and had a player I could not see at all open up on me, I had time to look every direction inside the building but saw nothing. Another time we made it all the way to the Airfield and were looting only to have a hacker port everyone on the server to one spot and kill every last person. We honestly find our best loot off of other players but I don't see how anyone can have camps full of this stuff. I've never even seen an m4 sd mag and we found an m4sd with 6 mags of it on a guy who was sniping in Cherno. This guy ran all the way north to get this stuff?

Join clan, clan gets server, clan mates go to loot points .. Server reboot, clan takes vehicles, stores them north. No one else drives. :|

Whenever you spawn or respawn run into the nearest real town and within a few minutes you should have a weapon. Whether it's a hatchet or a gun they're effective in the right hands. Then head North to find real loot.

People have camps full because some hack it, others player with large groups, and others snipe players at hotspots to get all their loot.

Thanks for the advice, the only gear we really hurt for is ammo for our military guns and high grade military equipment like Nods. Seems that any time we get close to a chopper a random vehicle shows up and snipers mow us down lol.

Currently having the same issue... Mainly due to lack of food...

Honestly, I have 7 cans of drink and one can of food. Are the spawn values messed up or something?

Honestly this makes a TON of sense. It seems like there is no hope on servers like that because all of the vehicles have already been taken by guys who are basically exploiting. Sucks when an honest guy can't get any good stuff because the clans are riding around cherno in their death machines raiding everything 10x as fast.

*EDIT* Btw we don't have any problems getting basic survivial stuff. Packs, food, canteens, knives, matches, basic guns are easy to come by during a quick run in Cherno or Elektro but the highgrade stuff is tough.

My buddy was running from Kamenka to Cherno when two guys in Ghillies veered to run him over and break his legs. They both hopped off, gave him morphine, then laid an AS50 on the ground with ammo and told him to wait till they were gone to touch it. Needless to say he waited and let them go on their way. HOW does one possess enough crap that an AS50 is used for apologies???

it seems like it takes long at first. but once you learn the routes, and where to stop on the way, it's not bad at all. make the whole trip into an activity: stay in the trees/cover. constantly look around for other players. constantly look around for crashed helicopters. carefully scope out an area before entering. I think doing all that makes the trip more interesting and helps time pass. not to mention maybe you'll stay alive and become a better player (no offense, we all can improve). just holding down W and saying "OMG this takes forever" makes it boring and seem like a chore

I agree in principle, but the field definitely isn't dominated by the clans. It's a big world. I think patience is the key.

It can seem like they are, but I have no trouble finding an abundance of food and drink, where do you mainly scavenge for it?

To the OP, it can seem like there are no good guns around and I often feel like that. But you just need to go scavenge more, have you tried looting from deer stands as they sometimes have good loot with not much risk aside from a few military zombies around them. If you want really good loot then you're going to have to go to the airfields, barracks or helicopter crash sites.

I can make it to them easily on foot, it doesn't take that long. If it's taking a long time for you, are you navigating properly, are you going the most direct route there?

I do run to a hospital get morphine, you dont wNt to get caught without it, go to a barn find weapons, if lucky food, find hatchet often there too, when you find a water bottle and matches you are set. Never leave until you have two drinks and two cans of food. Avoid cherno. Avoid super market. Go to rog or Zog, there is often a bigger back pack. Go only in the woods, where possible. Watch your profile at all times. Go ne air field less busy. If you are lucky find a heli crash. Never go on a crest, cross fields fast if unavoidable, then change direction. If you see a player avoid them. If you are sniped at run zig zags, randomly not predictable etc. dont hide in grass as the lod will show no grass in distane. Dont open doors outwards. When you approach loot. The zeds will spawn in your direction, now make a big arch and approach from the rear etc.

Everywhere pretty much... The very little food I do find tends to come from pubs in Cherno or those big square bricked houses...

I don't know though, I guess it's just my luck. If I find a gun I can't find food and vice versa D: ;)

Hacked both times unless someone was really lucky with their shots through walls.

The only thing I can recommend is finding better servers. It's really hard to avoid hackers at the moment.

Is there a list of great servers that decent players play on?

To get "better" at DayZ you need to learn the map in a way. When you get a map and wander around you start to figure out where good loot spawns are and are able to get better weapons. When you get better weapons you learn the sounds of those weapons. Meaning one, you can avoid certain guns that are extreamly loud (lee enfield), and two, you can figure out others guns and know whether you can run out and fire back or stay behind shelter. Spend some time on a smaller server to get used to the zombie spawn radius. When you figure out how close you have to be for zombies to spawn you can know whether your the one spawning them or if another player is (Server Hoppers, Explorers). Learn this now a lot of players server hop meaning places like NW Airfield will be completly looted though you can go to kill. Its the simple things you need to learn to get "better" once you do that it gets much better.

Hope this helps let me know if you have any questions or whatever.

Fuck off

All I got from your post and this is one is that you want a crutch to make it easier since you can't seem to grasp how to effectively play this game and to top it off someone gives you a valid option and you tell them to fuck off.

You deserve nothing other than a .50 to the head.

To get "better" at DayZ you need to learn the map in a way.

I've been playing about a month now, my current character has 16 days. The game definitely opened up for me once I learned the map. I've spent a lot of time exploring the north, and the more common places to find camps. A lot of people are lazy when it comes to camps and set them up near obvious landmarks (lakes and ponds, hilltops, rock formations). Most of my high-tier weapons and equipment came from raiding camps and vehicles. I have yet to set foot in NW Airfield or a Heli crash, and currently have no need to.

I guess it comes down to two things, learning the map, and a lot of patience.

Not true at all. I don't want a crutch I was simply at a point in the game that I didn't have a clear picture as of what to do. I did not know if joining a clan would increase my abilities and knowledge as to how they amass so much loot and shiny weapons or if I was just doing it wrong. The first response I got was clearly meant to troll or imply that I am too stupid to continue playing. If someone steps up then so be it but I have a right to step up as well. I'll be nothing but friendly towards someone until they are unfriendly to me.

BTW, you can hide behind your semantics all you like. Giving you a valid option to go waste yourself doesn't mean it's a good one or helpful at all.
