How To Snipe The Airfields ~ 3 Man Team

Recommended Posts

Roles for Dominating the North Airfields.

Roles:

1 x Sniper

1 x Range Finder

1 x Looter

Sniper:

The Sniper is the person who wields a sniper with available Zeroing, and takes all the shots.

Range Finder:

The Range Finder is the person who sits right next to the sniper, with a range finder. Once an enemy is spotted, the Range Finder tells the sniper how far the enemy is so the sniper may zero in, and take the shot.

Looter:

The Looter is the person who is planted down at the Airfields, to loot the dead bodies. If an enemy does not die, and runs away, the Looter finishes the job.

My 3 man airfield team generally just involves one looter..

Haul ass, zig zag like you're on acid, take what you can get, get out. Airfield raiding made easy.

A sniper assisted by a spotter? You sir have hit on something new and exiting here. Also other guys in the squad? Good for you!

I would recommend renaming the so-called "Range Finder" to Spotter. Upon picking a position, the team should write down ranges to some likely spots (on paper, you know) for quick response. This is known as a range card. The spotter should then (and during movement) use their L85A2 AWS's thermal scope to quickly and easily observe any heat signatures from around them. That gun is really the sniper teams best friend. It's not effective at ranges 20-50m and 400m+. Closer -> run, strafe and fire at automatic. Longer -> Use a sniper rifle. Remember to relocate after engaging if/when necessary. The spotter may want to carry a DMR in his backpack for engaging larger squads (as a single sniper rifle is not always enough).

As for looting: Yeah, keep overwatch. The overwatch team needs 2 guys, and the rest of your group can do other stuff like looting, assaulting, rear guard, scoping/binoccing other directions etc.

Pretty simple really. What you need is a crew willing to play carefully and smartly. Sometimes boring, but hey, that is the price of not wanting to spawn back to the bean coast all the time ;)

PS. Failing to have a rare thermal scope, the spotter uses range finder and preferably a quick fire rate weapon with a scope attached. This allows for assisting sniper right away. The range card negates most (but not all) need for a range finder once the position has been prepared.

Can do your own range calcs on the fly with most of the scopes in this game. My spotter is there for security, not rangefinding. He's watching the flanks so I can spend all my time looking at the target area.

Without somebody on security I'm too paranoid to spend much time on a scope. :)

I'm sorry hun, but your kinda doing it wrong.

As a spotter I know what my job is... and its not to watch my snipers back, its to find targets for him, and assist in prefire. I occasionally range find, but only if we're forced into an awkward location which we dont have memorized ranges for. Which happens very rarely.

Above is a quick home made map. We made several of these up of the major citys and airfields. All locations are memorized and used to giving locations and ranges from each position.

For example, Brown 1-3 is where we usualy snipe from when we're board and trolling in Electro. If we're suddenly flanked, and someone in the team isnt sure where the flanker is coming from, the one that does can say "Flank from Brown 8" or "Counter Sniper at Pink 1" Succesfully giving all team members a good place to start there scan for players.

The basic jist is...your wasting an entire player. He/She isn't being utilized to their full potential at all. Aka, your doing it wrong. You should have ranges from your popular sniping points memorized for quick scope shooting. Your literally wasting precious seconds when a player is standing still on waiting for a range from another person.

Quess your sniper is 2 cripple to calculate the range of the target without range finder.

I've always been the spotter (not so much into sniping myself), so my mildot practice is a bit off. Good points, I'll have to learn that skill properly at some point. I've relied on my sniper getting that shot right once I've called the target in ;)
