10 Suggestions/Ideas [Feel free to elaborate!]

So in this thread we will discuss suggestion & ideas that may help/expand gameplay for the DayZ mod. I will start.

1.) Log Out Timer:

When clicking the disconnect button, a timer should appear which reads, "Logging off in: 20 seconds". This would help with people just logging off to get out of a sticky situation. They will still be able to run around n' shoot of course, so the timer would be on the side or in a corner.

2.) Trade House:

A building where players guns become un-usable and maybe even have the guns go into holster / onto back as to calm brain waves from thinking "I may be shot". The building will also not allow players to shoot into said building. (We'd also need the option of bringing up a trade menu.)

3.) Wall Building:

The ability to put up wall made out of wood or maybe even concrete. Just like putting up a fence, you'd be able to create little bases that are protected, and have the ability to make a wall that includes a door. You could also find scrap metal to create keys to open said door, so you can give out the keys to friends and also the ability to lose them to foes. It would take some time to implement this into DayZ and even program it, but I think if done right it could work out. (Much more thought to be done for this idea.)

4.) Clothing:

Maybe the ability to sew clothing or find different clothes. Not really a needed part to DayZ, but this could also expand into armour & camo. Different hats, accessories such as bandanas, scarfs, shoes, necklaces, ect. A player should start shirtless and thus needing more heat packs if temp gets cold, so clothing has an actual use. Could even start with a tank top/wife beata, ect, ect...

5.) Mirrors:

For long distance tactics (Mainly those without mics n' chat programs.) you could use a small/med mirror to reflect the sun and create a bright shine to let players know where you are, and maybe even to signal something that was discussed earlier. Again not really needed in DayZ.

6.) Infected Players:

The ability for a player to become infected to add more pvp in areas such as forests, or even to join the zombies in towns/spawn areas. Players would only turn under certain circumstances, and after dying restart as human again. (If zombies end up beating/eating you to death, then you actually die.) If implemented into the game it'd have to be done right, and be fair for players.

7.) Gun Flash Lights:

The ability to attach flash lights to more guns then the one that comes with one. Find duck tape/wire to attach instead of having to use buggy flash light while not being able to shoot. Also you could just have the ability to hold a flash light and a handgun at the same time, while holding the gun stable over arm that hold the flash light.

8.) More combat weapons:

More hand held weapons such as swords/machete, bats, brass knuckles, tazer/shootable tazer, chainsaw (Needs gas, may start with a little in it), knife, baton, ect, ect. All with different damage and some with maybe abilities. Nothing really special.

9.) Traps ++:

More traps such as trip wire, with the ability to make it set off frags, smokes, gas, n more. Now for the +, the ability to throw down broken glass to hear enemies/bandits coming close. If you've played Metro 2033, you'll know. It's also known world wide, and especially in Russia!

10.) Pets:

A pet such as a hunting dog to use in tactical situation and even to help fend off zombies or point out one or even another player you may not have seen. In a fire fight or before a fire fight you could sick the dog on the other team, or make the dog distract them by running by them and Bam! Mow em' down. The dog could also hold a pet backpack/saddle to hold a lot more equipment. (A mobile tent) Maybe even allow the dog to hold a main weapon.

All of these ideas have been suggested already, except maybe mirrors, which is not a very good idea.

A log out timer would have gotten me killed by a hacker that ported me and thirty other people to the middle of Cherno. Ended up surrounded by bear traps and gun fire.

Trade House just downright circumvents the point of the game.

Yeah some of the ideas were just to fill a list of 10. I wouldn't doubt a lot of them were brought up, so my bad on a re-post... I no there is no real need to change or add a bunch of things as the game is great enough already, and any big changes will have to wait till Arma III. Thank you for your input!

Yeah never considered the hackers. The trade house was an idea that was "Way out there". Not way out there as in location, but just because yeah it is a stupid idea. Maybe just a trade menu between two players?

1. Good, But it may be hard since it's actually part of the Arma 2 menu/engine itself. But I also think after the 20 seconds you should get a minute grace period before disconnecting no questions asked. If you're in a firefight, and you start the countdown, and you win, you should have time to collect your loot before disconnecting.

2. No.

3. Yeah, I like it, but I don't think keys would be great. I'd like to see people use matches to burn down a wooden building and everyone inside; that would be awesome.

4. Probably will happen soon.

5. Meh. Could be used to start a fire, if you angle it right. See that video of the death ray with like 2000 mirrors? It could burn through steel. I think 10 mirrors could start a fire.

6. No.

7. Maybe.

8. Yes to all but Long ranged taser and chainsaw, but I wouldn't be against a handsaw or making some crazy weapon out of a car engine, a fuel tank an axe, some duct tape, and a can of jerry (like dead rising).

9. Yes, maybe also make bear traps make you bleed, and add road spikes to make cars need new wheels/ tires.

10. Nah.

The only reason I'd wanted the pet idea was because I've played alone since I've started. Would be nice to have extra storage that follows you. Only if the dog could give me blood packs. :lol:

I have a members in my group now so I'll be having a perfect time very soon. There really won't be any reason to change the game then. =]

i would like to make a couple of surgestions about server surfers and people who alt/f4. If there was a cool down timer if u want to change servers that would stop a lot of this. I would think a CD of 20 min which is longer than how long a dead body stays for so snipers cant shoot you than move to another server to move to body than log back onto the first server again, also plp who alt /f4 would have a wait to get onto other server but have no wait time penelty if you stay on the same server.
