Long Term Playability

Recommended Posts

First off, games like WoW are replayable because there's always "more to strive for", much like the Call of Duty prestige system which hooks many players in and providing people with at least a semblance of replayablity.

I'm going to use CoD to compare here (not gameplay you twats, replayability gimmicks)

So, having a fully geared player in Day Z is much like being a max level in CoD. You have everything. Where's the excitement? CoD players prestige, starting from scratch. Day Z players play more dangerously until they're killed, starting from scratch. Both ideas work about the same way, but CoD rewards players for their committment with swag (titles/emblems/symbol things) wheras Day Z doesn't.

So, my suggestion is to have various skins that are unlocked through in-game actions which are not lost through death. Things such as, idk, "100 bandit kills" gets you a western duster, or "500 zombies killed" or "100 headshots" "100 blood transfusions" and so on, earning clothing such as cowboy hats, medic armbands, and anything else which a player can use to customize themselves with.

I read somewhere on here, "Never underestimate a players desire to customize things, even for no more than cosmetic benefit" and its entirely true. And tieing customization to various feats creates more of a "hook" to keep players playing longer.

Quote a few suggestions like this already. Most people are very averse to having achievements or points, other than kills.

Eh, I dunno. Maybe.

I'd probably wait and see if I even get bored of it first. 150 hours in and no sign of boredom as yet.

I'm not saying having a full out acheivement list. It wouldn't be viewable in-game, the clothing would be unlocked when you completed said requirement and you wouldnt be notified of how you got it. Eventually players will figure out what gets what clothing, but that's not a problem either.

Additionally it would allow players to see what you've accomplished in Day Z at a moment's glance. The guy wearing taliban clothing? Probably unlocked it via many pks. The guy with the medic armband? Probably has healed a lot of people. So on and so forth.

I stopped reading there since that's not true. After 2 hours I could FEEL the brain cells DYING in my head playing WoW.

Most braindead game ever.

Any and all references, analogies or allusions to WoW are null & void.

I agree, not a fan, but that doesn't stop the unique player statistics and subscription revenues. Null & void my ass
