I am interested in other styles of gameplay as this game simulates real life tendancies very well, Post some information on how you guys act when confronted with other online players(stories are encouraged)

met one friendly fella (showed us round cherno when we were new) and everyone else has shot first. so now we just open fire on sight. feels bad sometimes, but hey ho, better them than us.

When I see an unarmed player I come up to them and ask if they need anything. If they don't, I follow them around in a hidden area, dealing with players who wish to do harm to them.

When I see an armed player I get more cautious. I make sure that I am close and that I say "Friendly!" If they don't answer I warn I will shoot if they continue with the silence. Any harmful action will cause bullets to fly obviously... but people tend to get around that by backstabbing me as I give help.

When I see an armed player SHOOTING an unarmed player, of course I would shoot the armed player. If two armed people are fighting eachother, I'd shoot the guy with the better gear since they have a tendency of being bandits. Though in some situations, I leave no survivors.

i call bullshit. i pretty much KOS everyone in this game, as players are the only real challenge in dayz. irl, though, i'm a really chill guy (even though i look like steve austin.) i promise i have never shot anyone, and if i did it would be some kind of crazy life-or-death situation, not so i can rob them of their backpack. if you drop your beer on my shoes in a bar i'm far more likely to buy you another one than punch you in the face. dayz is a GAME. nobody actually gets hurt.

saying that the way a person enjoys an online computer game has anything to do with the way they act irl is just silly.

edit: added underline to the quote, the bold didn't stand out well enough

this is a sharing of play style and reactions. not opinions.^^

i would like to know if anyone ever feels guilt for the bad things they do in this game.

I haven't felt guilt yet, but haven't done anything horrible.

So far, I'm playing friendly. I've killed a few times, yes, but it's only been people who've shot first, or people who were clearly looking for trouble (snipers and the like). I do like to help others out (though they usually just shoot at me before I can try), but lately haven't run into many folk as I've been scavenging in land.

Well that is your opinion.

I play as an opportunistic bandit. I don't really hunt people and never camp for other players, but if I come across someone while playing I will fire on them unless I can see some tangible reason not to.

First few days of playing, I got a knife, hatchet, matches and went straight north to get better gear, but that got boring really fast, avoiding players like the plague going up north just to die, what a waste of time for a noob, that I was back then.

Now I stick between balota, cherno, the lighthouse and elecktro. Depending where I spawn and how many people are in cherno/elecktro. Killing everyone in sight, ignoring 90% of the zombies. People who are unarmed will be armed soon enough, so if they don't pose a threat then, they certainly will later on.

Sometimes me and my friend find bikes at the lighthouse, quads on the mountain or the bus in elecktro and we fix them up. We were sniping from noob hill by elecktro and someone drove down the dirt road on a motorbike, so we killed him and took the bike, so we decided to ride it to stary military camp for a laugh to see if anyone was there, we rode down the middle of the tents and someone was there, he was dieing to a few zombies that were on him, we sat there laughing while he died so I got off and looted him, he had m4 and an as50 in his pack but we already had good guns and gear from other players or firehouses in elecktro so I hid his body and we drove up to the airfield and drove around in the open of the air strip after awhile a sniper finally shot us and we blew up, we laughed.

There really is no reason for me to go to the barracks, the firehouses spawn m4s, ak's and m16's and sometimes all you really need is a hatchet, I was in elecktro with a hatchet, someone with an m240 machine gun was crouched in front of the church with a buddy, that was afk I assume, while the guy with m240 was protecting him, I snuck up behind him and axed him where he got that gun? So then I had an m240 running around elecktro.

Im survivor style.. but very paranoiak. If someone if not armed its ok, otherwise i ask him to walk in front of me.. just to have his head right in the middle of my m16 acog.. just in case you know.. But i like coop. I like this feeling of having a stranger next to me helping me.. and at the same time.. always asking to myself .. should i kill him.. will he kill me? I love this game for that.. the paranoia feeling.

you know sometimes its not very hard to kill people. most the time i dont feel remorse for being proactive about defense, cause you know what they say.. a good defense is a good offense. and most people wouldnt think twice about shooting the easy target walking around saying "friendly?". Other times i can't help but feel bad. I was in prigorodki and a a group of three players(obviously new) stumbled into the supermarket i was in. they were loud and throwing chemlights and talking in direct as a group communication, when i realized "I might not make it out alive if they are armed.." my first reaction was to be patient but they were definatly coming my way. when one of the survivors walked into the main room of the supermarket with only an axe, i had to cap him. He went down no sweat(CZ550). I then repositioned after the others were alerted and the leader said somthing that really made me feel bad. as the player name was shown being killed, he said "oh shit man that was gunfire... oh my god matt was killed!!". the terror in his voice mixed with the shear violence outside the market from the zombies(not to mention it was midnight) just made me regret not saying "friendly" when i had the chance.

Sorry to say - I purposely go to hot-spots like Starry and NW airfield to find someone to shoot.

I don't like killing freshies though.

truth be told. it is still a game and most will treat it that way, but i beleive there are still real life stories of your type of situation. a man in colorado just shot up a batman movie premeire with no motive, other than to cuase havoc. i beleive this game simulates real life tendancies very well.

I go as follows:

Anyone I don't know or is not in any chat program of mine, I am automatically suspicious. Unless the server I'm on is clan run and have a huge bias against bandits, anyone who is brandishing a weapon is considered an enemy and must be taken out. Now, if the player had an axe, I might be more lenient and walk the opposite way depending on how I'm feeling.

If the player is unarmed and obviously just starting from the coast, I usually offer my assistance or just quietly watch them walk the opposite direction.

Call me a douche for the whole "shoot first" hooplah, I just always remember the times when I could of shot instead of sitting on my stupid ass shouting "Friendly!"

I play as medic, if I see a player, I'll only shoot if they shoot at me, even then a preference running. Otherwise, I try and heal them and help them out.

if i see a player, and they dont see me, ill offer help via direct comm, but useing text, if i dont get an answer, i head the other way, i dont often team up(as most people have the SOS attitude) so id say i was a survivour/hunter, i stick to heavyly forest areas where there is water/animals, make sure there are a few towns close by incase i need ammo/supplys, or if i've used my last crossbow bolt and cant get it back, i tend to follow how i am in person, a hermit who aviods ppl at all costs, lol

After being shot at and killed, even when I only have an axe and being chased by zombies, my policy is to shoot at anyone with a gun in its hands if I can't avoid them. The douchenozzle-to-decent ratio is off the scale to bother with anything else.

Except for brazilians and russians. They get popped regardless.

Eh, the problem is, those kinds are a serious minority. In real life, if this really happened, I'd wager people would be too afraid to shoot (it may draw other survivors, bandits, zombies and such). Not to mention, the natural human tendency towards grouping up is very strong.

I'm always friendly, I never shoot first, only kill people I *know* are bandits, and I try to give noobs (note: not just fresh spawns, people who are new at the game in general) sidearms if I can (1911, revolver). I generally run around the edges of the map, through the forests, get decent stuff (CZ, M24, maybe an assault rifle), then attempt to kill noob killers back near the beach. Sadly, I'm pretty sure people are starting to leave the beaches and head inland straight away... so not much action lately.

I'm a lone wolf, meaning no backup or reinforcement if things get heated, I would always choose retreat and would melt away if they try to follow me, I'm also a pacifist, meaning I think its wrong to kill anyone, I also won't help anyone I don't know and won't accept help unless I'm almost dead.
