Direct communication questions

Does direct voice communication work on all servers? How can i find out if it works or not? And does text chat always work or is it sometimes buggy? Thanks for the help!

ps. i know that the range is limited - but it happened several times that other players didn't react to voice comm and/or chat at all...

Direct works randomly. Players within 80m can hear you, within a 40m range they can see your text.

I say randomly because we have tried to use it in our small group and they can see the mouth animation but a lot of the time they do not hear anything. Same with text..sometimes works sometimes does not. Definitely not a good thing in a tight situation. We bailed from the in game comms and use skype or ts, i have tried direct a few times when other players are near but very rarely get a result so i assume they are not hearing me either.

It's hard to trust people without voice communication. Sometimes they do are able to talk via mic but are mostly bandits or stunned in fear.
