A simple idea with a large impact?

Recommended Posts

Skip for TL:DR people just explaining why i cam up with the idea

I have been reading quite a few posts lately about how DayZ is no longer a zombie survival game but rather a large pvp where the only impact zombie's have if any is that they help alert other players to your presence or slightly slow down your movement for a brief period. And after some thinking on ways to force players to interact again and more then that get over the survival aspect in the middle of no where with 1 canteen and an axe, a knife, and some matches i came up with what in my own opinion is a simple but decent solution and i will explain my thoughts on how and why.

First and foremost though let me just say that as it stands i do like the way the mod is playing out right now, gun fights to me are still thrilling and that is made in part by the fact that i do not script my guns in, cheat them in with tents or glitches, or even server hop. This makes my gear slightly valuable and even when it no longer stands i enjoy raiding the barracks daily to get more gear and get that sense of adventure and more often then naught i will eventually die losing some of the better gear i had, which makes the replay value entertaining.

It is from that aspect that i got this simple idea, i had seen arguments of all sorts of wacky and silly features to add in like antibiotics to cure the virus inside you to other ones that seamed a little over the top. And while i do agree that raiding towns needs to become more needed i feel people are trying to do it in the wrong way.

TL:DR people can start reading here :P

Here is my proposed solution. You can no longer get water from any lake or other means of above ground based water.

The reasoning is simple, there are no rivers that are flowing from underwater lakes, or fresh snow melt/rainfall all water on the map that i have at least seen is stagnant sources which are generally full of bacteria's and more then that pollution from people. This would require players to go to town to either raid for soda can's or to fill there bottles from one of the well's in town.

"well that won't stop people from just camping the towns." This is true and one could argue it would make it worste because just like with loot spawns now they have specific places to look in town knowing players will eventually need to go there. but see here is the magic, these towns now become hot spots for more experienced and well equipped players so it's no longer just some retard on a hill camping with his DMR or maybe AS50 if he is really lucky. It will require more players to come to the towns and more then that players who are actually smart enough to scope out there surroundings before entering

Maybe this is a bad idea, I don't know that is why i am making this post because it seams like something that would be interesting to play with or maybe i am just blatantly wrong and you can all tell me that in whatever cruel way you come up with.

So the idea how to make this again "a zombie survival game" instead of "large pvp" is to force all ppl to go "to town to either raid for soda can's or to fill there bottles from one of the well's in town". This sould make a towns "hot spots for more experienced and well equipped players" (well newbies will likely still be there) and as a result this game stop being "large pvp" (?)

I'm sorry but I dont get it. Maybe i've missed something.

when did i ever say i was against PvP, it will change nothing in that aspect but may help stop camping and force players to interact and compete outside of getting the best gear. It would spread out hot spots and create real survival aspects to the game again rather then rush the airfield and store loot while surviving without risk of player interactions.

Hang on, you're trying to reduce pvp by... encouraging people to go into cities to get water?

It will be a complete blood bath mate :)

I never said i was against pvp for the second time. And as it stands i do raids on towns all the time and never see any action the reason being there is no real need to go to towns what the idea is, is to force player interaction but on a more spread out scale so you don't jsut have large scale wars going on over the airfield and sometimes starry. The idea is the more ground a player needs to cover to survive the more of a survival game it is and the more survival plays in to the way you engage in pvp, not jsut constantly camping and then running in the woods to be safe and feast and water yourself safely to prepare for another camping escapade.

Fair point. However, there are plenty of wells in other towns as well.

Stupid thread.... there are.... what? 5 lakes or so? This would only make this pvp garbage even worse.

We are trying to spread players out, not push everyone into cities
