The solution to most of our PVP ”problems”

Recommended Posts

Communication.

If we had some sort of voip the number of instances of random murders would drop dramatically. Having direct chat disabled or broken prevents friend or foe verification. Does mumble work for arma2? I'd be willing to host a server for dallas2, legion's server if it works for the mod.

I've been loving this mod for the past few days. Deaths and all. I just hate that there isn't positional audio. Kind of an immersion breaker imho.

Please fix the direct chat or get back to chaos or me about if mumble works Adam or Rocket.

Rocket knows what caused the error with direct chat i believe, so it's only a matter of time until it's fixed :)

Forget about mumble, best option would be TS3 with ACRE (not sure if that is compatible to DayZ, but I cant imagine why it shouldn't be).

Then again if direct chat is fixed, we're good.

I just hope there will be some sort of a group-system in the future, that allows us to form groups and utilize those channels.

ACRE (and ACE for that matter) added into the mod would be pretty great. Especially with the different radio frequencies that survivors would have to tune into in order to reach anyone that isn't within direct chat range. The problem is that ACRE currently requires everyone to be in one Teamspeak channel, which isn't all that practical for servers filled with random people, as many of which are new without much Arma experience, let alone ACRE experience, that would have trouble even getting it working properly.

I suggested a watered-down, in-game, "ACRE" system. Basically, you are limited to direct chat until you find a radio. Once you find a radio, you can use the side chat, as if each survivor has tuned into the same emergency frequency. It's a very "ghetto" radio system, but it wouldn't require any extra effort from players, and nobody would be left out.

Direct Communications VoIP does work, the problem is the people that wont take a moment to set it up and those that don't have microphones.

VoIP doesn't work straight out of the box with DayZ, you have to go into Options - Controls and bind a key to Direct Communications Push-to-Talk.

Yes, it does work. But given the community here is more prone to complain about it than actually doing it, nothing will change.

I don't see as to why it would suddenly stop working, I've used it, and been around others using it in the current version (that's been up since yesterday, which was before this post was made) and all the previous versions for the past week.

We're all happy for you, but unfortunately some of us - such as myself - are having problems with Direct Comm. I had it bound directly to one of my keys and could see the microphone appear on screen. People I've encountered can see the mouth moving, but hear nothing and can't see the chat either. I haven't heard ANYONE using Direct Comm since I've started playing (about patch 1.4.3).

Rocket explained in another thread why it most likely isn't working, but I believe it's the mod itself or a variable they changed when they enabled Side Chat again. Just seems odd it worked when chat was only limited to Direct Comm, but when the restriction was removed, it broke it for a large number of people.

The other theory I read on another website is that if you talk in another channel besides Direct Comm, it breaks it. If you ONLY use Direct Comm from the time you start the game, it works; however, I've tested this with my friend and it didn't fix the issue for me.

You can type in direct chat but no one can read what you type for some reason. I like to identify someones name and typing in direct shows who they are. There is no other way what so ever to positively identify someones name in game other than them typing it in chat.

Stop spreading this nonsense and basically imply that most players here are idiots. It is not about ppl, nor their inability to bind keys.

It is either a server side or dayz code issue. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, even on the same server. My bet is that this is a social experiment inside a social experiment :D

Exactly what Atkins said - there is definitely a problem with Direct Communication, it's not just players complaining over nothing.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't and sometimes you only have Direct Commlinks with certain people. FREELANCE consistently experience these differences and we often briefly test the Direct Comms to check whether they're functional or not, and whether we may or may not be able to communicate with other survivor groups that we encounter.

Just because it works for you at one time, that doesn't necessarily mean it will work for everyone else - and this can change at any time.

Yep, and it's a major problem with the mod.
