are the profiles server-side stored?

Recommended Posts

Me and my friend kinda screwed up dayz in patch 95054 by following this guide http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/36328-updating-beta-patch-fix/. Yesterday I tried upgrading to 95208 because I was getting "bad version" and screwed it up some more. So now I have the following question: can I reinstall dayz without losing my progress and what's the best way to do it? Or can I still fix what I screwed up?

Yes profiles are stored on the Hive server.

How does the server know which profile is mine after the reinstall? How does it compute the GUID?

The Hive server keeps track of your inventory and your location by your unique identity key that was given to you upon install. If you are talking about your name and the look you gave your character in the games main menu the Hive does not keep track of that as that is in a configuration file on your hard drive.

So can I backup that key? Because it sounds to me that'll lose the key to my profile when I reinstall.

Bump. Does anyone else have any idea?

Yes,save your key in the registry and then use it when you re-install.

Start > Search/run regedit.exe

Go to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Bohem ia Interactive Studio\ArmA 2 OA"

You will see an entry called "KEY". This is the registry entry for that installation's CD key. Click on it (don't open it).

File > Export > Save it on your desktop. This will act as a shortcut to use your first cdkey/profile/character. You can name it whatever you want.

Now you can install the second instance of the game and run the file you saved on your desktop.
