Suggestion for new map

I read a while ago that rocket is planning on making a new map for Dayz , or expanding the current one, and an idea popped into my head. Seeing as the infection has killed most of the people on this planet, why not have a city in which a nuclear reactor failed to function properly and melted, causing a radiation spill. This could allow all sorts of things.

Geiger counters will be needed if you want to survive in that city, making the game even more difficult.

Radiation suits might be needed to survive the most dangerous places.

Anti radiation medicine in case people get radiated.

That city could hold one of the best loot in the game, and should also be big, and would be very dangerous.

Also , the radiation could add new enemies. I am reminded of S.T.A.L.K.E.R Call of Pripyat, the infamous bloodsuckers. Whilst this might be stretching it I think it would be awesome to be running from a pack of bloodsuckers through an abandoned city.

What do you guys think ?

New content is always welcome, although I haven't been all over Chenarus yet.

Radiation is a difficult factor to put in a game as it never really goes away, unless you change it's properties for the gaming world.

New content is always welcome, although I haven't been all over Chenarus yet.

Radiation is a difficult factor to put in a game as it never really goes away, unless you change it's properties for the gaming world.

I believe that minor cases of radiation poisoning can be healed , but when you are severely irradiated , it is very difficult to survive.

Considering how easy it is to create maps for a game like this...yeah I think it could be done without taking too much time from developing game mechanics. The idea of radiation is pretty awesome. I would like to have an area like that!

I'm not keen on the radiation thing. Radiation is generally overplayed in today's culture and I find it tedious.

As for maps New Zealand would make a perfect one. Maybe New Zealand could be the only place the infection hasn't totally taken over and so people start to head there, whatever I don't give a shit about back story but I think the islands would make great maps.

I agree with making the map an island, the only problem is the island has to be big enough to have a 'proper' inland.

If it's to small and everyone could just jog from coast to coast it would quickly turn boring.

Totally. Chernarus is massive though so I don't see that being a problem.

The problem is that if the island is the size of Chernarus you're gonna have a whole lot of coast and only a little of inland.

Still, I hear the maps in Arma3 are gonna be way bigger, so maybe?

Personally I would like the map to be based on new zealand, plenty of varied terrain to keep it... fresh.

I've been working on something along these lines in Arma 2 for some time now, taking place in the "S.T.A.L.K.E.R.-verse". A lot of what you mention here is quite possible within the Arma Engine and has already been dabbled in by various mod-makers. Right now this project is in its infancy... basic mechanics and whatnot. If anyone has any experience in scripting or creating game content, and this idea interests you, feel free to shoot me a PM.

When I imagine the city in which the nuclear reactor melted down, I imagine a city with tones of apartment buildings that are really high and windowless and they could all be (or most of them) entered. This would allow a ton of sniping seeing as the city is huge and there are alot of windows and you could always climb onto the rough and snipe from there, but it would also allow a lot of CQB in the same buildings, seeing as there are many rooms. This would make the game really harder especially for lone wolfs, seeing as they would have to use all their skill and intellect to survive in an encounter. Just imagine sniping from a building alone , when a group of 3 or 4 people enter your 5 story building. You have to use booby traps , all sorts of lights and misguiding tools in order to take the whole group down and actually survive . This would make the game harder , and in return, more fun :P

Well Dayz lags allot in cherno and elektro, the question is, if you make a city the size of Pripyat from S.T.A.L.K.E.R., would you actually be able to run it.
