user555 1 Posted July 24, 2012 I often see UTC or GMT timezones in the server names, but apparently they don't give a shite about what they're promoting or the servertime is just randomized anytime I join a server. It's day time in my region now and I want to play on a server at night. So I just joined a bunch of servers through the whole timezone ranging from UTC-10 to GMT+10 and on every single one it was daytime. Is there a reliable way to determine the ingame time before joining the server? Daddy'o (DayZ) 146 Posted July 24, 2012 Sadly no. You can only go by what's in the server name but that's not often accurate as you've found out. It's a 2 fold reason. First one is the admins just don't give a crap and advertise a different time than they actually run. Most people prefer running day time cuz people hate the night. The second reason is that the server lag causes time desync. When you log in you get the right time and amount of light, but as you play your time will start to desync with the server and as it goes on you might find that you're still playing day time even though the server is on full night.Or you might run in to other players that have full daylight but you have full darkness. Lag causes to the time to slow down, and people who get lag will end up with different time than people with less lag.

I must have connected and disconnected from about 20 servers in 30 minutes.
tarin4med@gmail.com 10 Posted July 24, 2012 Dayz Commander...Not true.I joined one last night through it that stated that it was 1pm in the server. It was pitch black, more like 1am than 1pm.
bnblue@hotmail.com 40 Posted July 24, 2012 From the creator of Six (Sickboy?) says there's no technical way of showing it's the admins that control such things.I was suggesting maybe an icon or some sort showing a moon/sun or some such but alas!
banshee 6 Posted August 8, 2012 Well there is indeed no proper way to determine if it's day or night.Yes, the servers have sometimes their timezone in the description. But this won't work as well if the servers are not getting restarted frequently because the ingame clock doesn't really work in realtime. That's why SIX doesn't have such a filter.
