Sniper rifle - 2 shot kill?

Was wondering whether anyone else would agree, that a sniper shot should knock you to the ground and leave you incapacitated rather than outright kill you, at least to give some time to administer medical aid and maybe drag a downed player away from gunfire.

Whilst in this incapacitated state, a further shot, or bleeding out, will kill the player. Was also thinking this should also be the case for makarov headshots etc. I know it is not particularly realistic but it would add a new dynamic to PvP.

To be honest it wouldn't work. If you drop to the floor incapacitated, the follow up shot is coming faster than you can regain consciousness.

Some snipers do take 2 shots anyway.

I killed PureUncut and another at the airfield the other day. I hit them with my DMR. Took me about 3 seconds to drop them both. If they were incapacitated and not killed, the follow up shot was coming immediately. If you could still crawl away, then it would be semi viable, but if you just have to sit there for a few minutes waiting for a timer, you're dead anyway. These were both one shot kills, however I've also been sniped a couple of times, I was hit first, drop to the floor unconscious, then dead within 3-4 seconds from a fast follow up shot.

It's also annoying when people just alt F4 after you hit them the first time and they're unconscious, then switch servers wait out, patch up and go from there. I've taken to disconnecting myself when I see them disconect, check through the servers until I find them, reconnect and finish them off. I'd prefer it to stay 1 shot. It's a powerful gun we're talking about that's been carefully aimed to hit you ina certain place.

Not that I don't agree that it takes some skill to fire the sniper rifle, but isn't the winchester also a very powerful gun, but that just got nerfed in damage?

Ultimately I would prefer it if a hit with the sniper rifle, apart from a headshot, should drop you to the floor with the ability to crawl away and bandage up/morphine/painkiller up if you have time. I travel with large amounts of meds, might be nice to get a chance to use them in PvP as well.

Oh well, I think I might just grab a CZ550, give up my 4,000 humanity and just be a bandit now anyway - since there seems to be no reward apart from death for being "friendly".

Doesnt the CZ work that way already? I thought only the military weapons that are hard to get kill someone in 1 bullet.

I was shot twice by a cz550 in my first 5 minutes of the game, neither shot killed me and after murdering my attacker I went on to live a long, happy and productive life in DayZ.

I hardly ever use the CZ but I've never one shotted anybody :(

Arma II is a military sim, not a casual cod game. this mod is supposed to be as realistic as possible. Askign to change such a basic, essential and well balanced health vs ballistic system is just plain stupid.

You do realize that if you dont aim properly, even a body hit won´t kill you in one shot, don´t you?

Anyway, a 7.62 bullet travelling at 600+m/s hitting your chest area will kill you in one shot. Period. Don´t like it? Go back to bf3 in normal mode. (not even hardcore you surive an sniper shot in the chest), there they sacrificed guns damage to dynamic, and hardcore players like myself just plain hate that. If you are a casual, go back to l4d.

On an other matter, in regular Arma II with the ACE mode, it was a common thing, getting hit by high calibre round in torso and falling on the ground, alive, but incapacitade. Also, legs shots were much more effective than in DayZ, i never was shot in the leg and wasn´t able to walk anymore, i even tried this on zeds and find it hard to drop tem in a crawling state. i think those kind of shots should be buffed, while maintaning a 1 hit, instante death in the chest área. (actually, should be in the heart are, a bullet in your right lung, relative far from your heart, wouldnt kill you instantly. but without surgery, would be impossible to survive. While in this point, bleedings that can't be fixed should be an interesting feature just to add in the agony and axiety of the game.)

I shot a bandit in the back of the head TWICE with a CZ, he managed to run off the roof of a hospital, get bandaged by his friend and get away.

That said, I think the randomness of the ballistics actually adds to the realism. You can still survive being shot in the head in reality so the "head-shots always kill" from other games just seems too certain in many ways.

However, I've rarely been shot by a CZ more than once without instantly dying. I think the system is in good shape at the moment.

I believe you missed that shot, if you actually saw the blood comingo from the head and is 100% sure it was the case, then maybe it was a glitch due to lag.

A rifle shot in the head ALWAYS kill in Arma.

I hate COD, love Arma II and i think the BF3 normal mode is just plain stupid to incopetent kids. And no, the argument "hurr durr, just hit a headshot" derp, is not valid for a imense list of reasons. It only (kind of) apply to dumb snipers, and i don´t even care to play as sniper in that game

Also, i don´t even like BF3 that much, too much casual for my taste.

But this is completely utterly offtopic.

I play Quake 3 and Tribes - realistic shooters aren't really my thing, but I think we can all agree that all take skill, just different kinds of skill.

Just thought it would be nice to be able to have at least a chance of surviving, obviously I have just been unlucky.

Current system is fine but it is a bit inconsistent.

Yesterday I shot 3 people in the chest area and they died immediately.

I shot a further 3 people in the chest they were able to patch themselves up and disconnect.

This was with the m24 btw.

As people have suggested, there seems to be a random element to bullet damage.

I have found that torso hits with my Enfield, CZ550 and DMR result in a roughly even distribution of one-shot and two-shot kills.

The latter is bothersome when unscrupulous types log-off to escape death, so these days I have to quickly follow up my first shot with a second to prevent it. Often it means putting a second bullet into a corpse, which isn't really a hassle, but each subsequent shot does make it easier for other players to determine your position.

Yeah, nerfing the snipers would be unfair, because allot of people don't take the second bullet, they just log off, it is a problem enough now as it is.

If anything, this game needs a log off timer, if you force close the game, people get 10 (maybe?) seconds of fun with your body, and what ever "fun" gets saved to your char.

and a 5 sec (maybe?) log off timer, that you can see and move around in, when logging off by yourself. But everything up untill the logoff is also saved, like dying, or getting blasted with bullets.

A DC from the server, should ofcause not be punished.. I know people could just pull the plug, but allot harder to pull a plug when you get shot by a sniper, then just hitting Alt F4, most of the time, i doubt people has the mouse in one hand, and a plug in the other.

Once tried to help someone who was sneaking through elektro, and he aggroed allot of z's, when i saw it, i got up and started firing at the z's... 2 sec later, he logged off, probs because he thought i was shotting at him, or he thought the z's would get him... It left me with quite a dead char.
