Trouble pitchin a Tent

Hey guys just started a couple days ago.. been pretty bad. finally found a tent and wanting to store some stuff but i can't seem to be able to pitch it. any tips?

off topic. can you not use a flashlight when you have a main weapon?

With a tent, someone told our group that if you go into gear, right click the tent and select pitch, if it doesnt work take a step back/forward with gear menu still open and keep trying to pitch through the gear menu.

You can but you just have to find somewhere to put your gun. For example, your backpack.

Ps- you should be able to pitch a tent anywhere flat. I pitch tents near trees or on them all the time. Freaky, I know.
