I noticed that when someone spawns, they spawn alone.

If this is the case, will I just have to find my friends in the game and get together somewhere?

But don't be discouraged. Trying to find eachother is fun and an adventure by itself! Also, you'll get a hang of the topography real quick because, since you don't start with a map, need to pay close attention to your surroundings.

When you spawn and log in, you will in the bottom right corner see a brief description of where you are. I suggest that you try to spawn in the same place by respawning, but the first time you spawn--look for that text message and then road signs. Locate each other and play together. I recommend staying away from online maps! The game is much more interesting when you don't know the world, and you'll appreciate the map when you find it in game.

Basically, yeah, at the moment you can use the respawn button to keep dying until yous spawn closer together. But this feature will be getting removed with the 1.7.2.4 patch. Other than that there is no way I know of that you can spawn together.

You're reply was more expansive, therefore you'll find some beans on the way to you.

Yes. If you both get a map though, you can join a server with way points and easily meet up. (Shift left mouse click on the map to set a way point, then follow the green arrow. Have your friend put his way point on the same coords.) Or attempt to make your way to the same town and describe the location- easier said than done sometimes.
