P5ykoOHD 63 Posted July 24, 2012 Ok, so as a Server Owner, I have recently started manually restarting the Server ... however, even though I warn people (5min, 3min, 60seconds) befor restarting, weither it's just a restart or to install a new patch, people will still join the server in between those warnings, and therefor will risk losing stuff due to "unexpected restart", since thay did not see the warnings. So I was wondering, if us server admins, would be able to have an excpetion and "lock" the server during those 5 minutes so that more people do not join just befor the restart and risk losing stuff.I know some may abuse this, but I really want to avoid having people lose stuff stupidly on my server. Hakultair 114 Posted July 24, 2012 Someone who joins the server in the 60 seconds before a reboot isn't gonna loose much on a 60 second rollback. People losing all gear due to not logging out is EXTREMELY rare, maybe happens 0.1% of the time. In short, as long as you give the people who have been on the server for a while a warning, and they log out, there should not be any issues.
DatenThielt 11 Posted July 24, 2012 Instead of locking, What we do on 105, Is tell people in the joining messages that the server will be restarted in 6 hour intervals, at 6 am, 12 pm, 6pm, and 12 am, Unless your unable to setup scheduled restarts, In that case I belive it is acceptable to lock for 5 mins, only servers that are locked all the time get black listed. That would explain it. I get my dedicated through Host Altitude, good company.
{sas}stalker 108 Posted July 24, 2012 On UK22 our restart regime is 6 hourly rolling starting at midnight BST (12am-6am-12pm-6pm). BEC makes an announcement 15 mins prior to a restart and does do every 3 mins (IIRC) until the time of restart. With 5 mins left before the restart BEC locks the server to prevent people from joining.

ebianbluefox 29 Posted July 24, 2012 Can you give me the wcript used ?I am fairly intrested. For BEC? it's pretty simple to get the scheduler set up. I personally run the service with Fire Daemon and just use BEC # shutdown for the auto restart. Can post if you really want it.
