Is This DayZ Install Guide Reliable?

Recommended Posts

If you want the easy route. Download Six Launcher and it will download it for you!

This is mine for a Arma 2 Free / Steam Combo Install

This assumes you have a 64bit Operating System If not substitute C:\Program Files (x86)\ for C:\Program Files\

Install Arma 2 Free

http://www.arma2.com/free

Install thru steam - Operation Arrowhead

Open game from steam just once this should trigger the BattleYe cheat program install

Download DayZ Torrent or Manual

http://uk1.dayz.nu/

Download Arma 2 Beta Patch

ftp://downloads.bistudio.com/arma2.com/update/beta/ARMA2_OA_Build_95248.zip

Goto

C:\Program Files (x86)\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2 Free\AddOns

Copy all the files and the folder

Make a folder called @DayZ and paste the folder into it ( So you end up with @DayZ\AddOns)

Paste the folder here

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead

Extract the dayZ files you downloaded into the @Dayz\AddOns folder

In steam Right click and goto properties\launch options and add -mod=@dayz -nosplash

Goto

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead

Copy the Launch Arma2 OA Beta Patch shortcut to your desktop

You must use this to start the game not the normal one

Open game

At the menu goto Expansions

Enable @DayZ Expansion

Back to menu

Multiplayer

Filter

Add Dayz in the Mission parameter to find the servers

But specifically for that thread that I posted, is that better than the whole Six Launcher thing I heard about? The same? Does it matter?

Unfortunately Six doesn't work for me so i cant comment on that.

I just had a look at the link you offered and it seems fine to me

It has similar parts to mine so give it a try

"DayZ Commander" is now also capable of installing and keeping DayZ up-to-date. It is stickied at the top of the page on the general board.

Yep, all 3 work. Like you, I'm new to DayZ since about 2 weeks ago and I used Chimaera's step-by-step instructions (he re-listed them in this thread for you) which worked perfectly. I could have used Six Launcher and I do have it installed and checked it out but the reason why I used Chimaera's is because doing it manually like that gives you more intel on how it all comes together if you ever need to troubleshoot. In my opinion, even manually it's not a complex process.

TLDR: Use whichever method you're most comfortable with.

Cheers.

Okay, so when a new patch is released, in oblivions method, can I just go to the arma 2 beta patch site and download whatever new one and continue playing? or will I have to move files around once I download a new patch?

Yep, d/l the latest beta patch and run it's installer executable. Then you're good to go with Oblivion's cmd launcher.

No moving files around necessary.
