Will players ever allow society ever rebuild itself in Day Z? Nothing is stopping it but people's unwillingness to cooperate. The tools to resetablish a government and military are avalible but people are too selfish to see the potential in it.

Its like the money bowl experiment. Everyone is sitting around a bowl, every 60 seconds 1 dollar is put into the bowl. Anyone can take the money at any time but if the bowl is empty the money stops coming in. Most people in this experiment grab the all money at $5 or $6 thus ending the game, instead of dividing it eavenly and leaving $1 in to keep the game going.

Day Z is a lot like that experiment because most people, like in the experiment, play for instant gratification with small rewards rather than teamwork which nets much larger rewards.

It's also similar to the prisoner's dilemma. We don't know what the other person is thinking and have little to no way of communication. So we assume they're out to get us and shoot on sight.

Exactly. Players are punished for trusting, and thus don't trust in situations where it could have helped them.

This is an interesting idea. How do you imagine society would re-form ?

Presumably you'd need a large clan to defend an area as the green zone 24/7 on a particular server.

Guess that'd just become a target for other groups then - maybe that's realistic.

Anyway, have some beans.

I like to imagine that in a perfect world, the new society would have a fully functional military ready to defend it. Complete with rank heirarchy, armories and vehicle depots. Lone bandits would be dealt with swiftly and full military operations conducted against bandit clans threatening the new society. Since time is an issue, the game could be played in shifts by groups of people defending the area.

Hell, if you got 50 people all in on the idea, you could have a bandit-free server where you build up your infastructure.

problem is even teamwork in this game can be a scam, teamed up with this group for a whole week, saved their lives countless times, voice chatted on skype and steam everyday almost all day, ended up backstabbing me up north after i was fully geared and ghillied. Even if the game went on to 1000$, its just a set up, thats just what theyve been waiting for, the jackpot. And btw there are a few bandit-free servers where the admins just kick whoever pks, thing is the game will get awfully boring after youve killed your thosandth zombie, pvp is a necessary part of a game, but an area in which to trade with no pks, like a safezone of some kind would be an amazing idea which is being implemented in War Z

While I'm not against a rebuilt society, it would certainly make the game boring as shit. The thrill is in the stress. The stress is in the PvP. Unfortunately, the PvE is not built up enough to make the game worthwhile on its own.

Now, if you could build bases and get swarmed by wandering hordes...then we might talk.

If you ever want a rebuilt society and need people to be a part of it, I am in. I am a "carebear" and I try to help people, though obviously I get backstabbed and killed way too often because of that. Though it doesn't stop me at all.

A rebuilt society starts with a powerful military, so veteran players with good communication skills are what will be the building blocks of success.
