Sprained ankles?

Recommended Posts

Just a thought...

Seeing as many of us travel large distances over rough terrain, and given the Man vs Wild approach that Rocket is pursuing (which is absolutely perfect in my view), I thought maybe there could be a small chance of ankle sprains in particular situations.

More likely:

- sprinting over rough terrain (eg in woods)

- sprinting/running at night time

- when tired, cold, thirsty or hungry, as you aren't quite as on to it.

- fall from a smaller height than required to fracture leg.

- carrying a heavy pack

Less likely:

- (assuming we are able to find in game skins/change of clothes) finding clothes with hiking or military boots.

- well fed, watered, warm etc.

How to fix:

- require pain killers (cos sprains hurt)

- bandage? (a la strapping tape to strap ankle)

Effects:

- Could give you the pain shudders, and make you walk slowly/limp. When you do the injury, could be forced into prone (but unlike breaking a leg, be able to stand up again, but only move slowly).

With regards to implementation, not sure how hard this would be but I kinda like the idea...

As an aside - how about being able to use morphine for things that require painkillers (opiates are the king of painkillers after all), but only morphine can 'fix' a fracture?

I kind of like this idea but I would definitely want to limit it to non-cultivated areas. ie: not farmland and towns. It would cause limping(reduced speed) and also be fixed by bandages.

By limiting it that way, you're making fast travel through the woods mildly risky and may give players more thought to staying in the open or on roads when travelling. Furthermore, if players choose to travel in the woods etc then they stand a chance of losing a bandage and possibly facing a situation where they bleed out due to lack of bandages. It could also improve the value of found vehicles.

I don't really agree with your aside suggestion however. If your shoulder is in pain (for example) you could take a simple painkiller pill and it would go away. Breaking your bone is quite a bit more painful and requires the king of painkillers.

ive snapped my legs stumbling over a traintrack in the dark, it was possibly a bug, but it made me squeal with delight for a moment :D

and then i had to bandage my bleeding and take some morphine... which fixed my broken bone... ever heard of a splint rocket? :)

Fair enough - my logic was that if painkillers do the job, morphine will also do the job (probably better). Obviously, you don't give morphine in a nice civilised society for mild to moderate pain (due to dependency issues). However, if you're alone in the wild, and your pain is making survival difficult (as expressed in game by shuddering screen), then if you have morphine but not (assuming) weaker pain meds (e.g. tramadol, paracetamol, or NSAIDs) you should have the option to use up the morphine. And 'chase the dragon' around the wilderness...
