Selectable Spawning made viable. [Fixes spawn-hopping, user friendly]

Recommended Posts

Allow players to select a general section of the coast to spawn on.

South West (Medium difficulty) - Kamenkha to Cherno

South East (Hard mode) - Prigo to Solnicy

Northeast (Easy mode) - Solnichy and north.

There is a timer tied to the Average Life Expectancy.

You cannot respawn on the same coast within that time limit.

If you run out of coasts, you are spawned randomly, and re-spawning is disabled until a coast opens up (likely a 15-30 minute wait.)

Benefits of this system:

  • Allows grouped players to more easily team up after death.
  • Encourages more care on the coast, since early deaths are likely to send you far away.
  • Makes it more difficult for people to spawn-hop to their corpse. Can only select nearby area, and cannot continue hopping if killed.
  • Spawn locations are vague enough to keep the mystery of exploration intact for newbs
  • Still allows players who are crippled and unable to heal themselves, and people stuck in the map to kill themselves
Edit: Shit, mods, move this to suggestions. My b

I think part of the cachet this game possesses is the 'where-the-fuck-am-i' randomness of your initial beach spawn. Any attempt to control that is akin to wrangling cats. You can try...

As much as I want that so I dont have to run for 55 hours to meet a friend only to be killed by a mike tyson or a sniper, it takes some fun out of the game really. You dont get a WHERE THE FUCK AM I feeling.

There is already a way to make it easier to meet up with friends after spawning.

They're called vehicles.

Don't have one yet? Lace up those shoes. The furthest you can possibly spawn from each other is like 10km which is a ~15 minute run.

This is a complicated solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

ppl will camp at the popular spawn points

Still spawn at a random location, just on a specific coast.

Vehicles end up in caches in the middle of the woods within a few hours of a server restart. I've been playing for a long ass time and yesterday was the first day I found working cars.

Running cross-country takes way more than 15 mins, and the map is 15km wide. Dunno how you figured that out.

Also, it's 3 guidelines, most of which the average user won't even encounter.

Complicated?

This feeling has worn off for me, I just spawn hop now because I know exactly where everything is.

This system doesn't remove all of that mystery, just gives you a general section to spawn on.

No.

Thank you for your insightful reply.

First of all, vehicles do not appear on server restart. They respawn at secret intervals controlled by the hive and have nothing to do with server restarts.

Secondly, if they end up in "caches" in the woods then that makes it easier to steal them. They will be repaired and you can get in one and drive away.

I have owned and operated over 35 vehicles in my time in the game. About half of which I have repaired at their original spawn locations (long after a server restart, by the way) and the other half I have stolen from these super secret completely hidden "caches" you speak of.

You want to travel faster? Man up and get to work. Vehicles are out there.

Spawn points are not at the extreme edges of the map and two people running at each other only have to cover half the distance to meet. That's how I figured it out. Kamenka to Solichniy is around 11km. And chances are very very slim that you will end up at those extremes. More likely you will be about 5km from each other, which is an 8 minute run. Oh, god. 8 precious minutes.

3 guidelines and a bunch of timeouts and timers and you can't spawn now and a ton of completely unnecessary bullshit to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

Just no. Really.

What are they going to do take your patrol pack? Maybe your super duper flashlight? Or highly rare painkillers?

I only play on US East Coast servers.

Stop your tears.

1. My bad, I guess finding them almost exclusively after a restart is a coincidence.

I don't typically just wander through the woods, due to it being fucking boring.

It's not a question of manning up so much as a question of me not enjoying playing the game like a hiking sim.

Also, since you have vehicles, finding your clan is probably much easier. Some people don't. Not having to hike for an extra 15 minutes isn't a huge gamebreaker imo.

2. Yeah you're right. If I die, and me in my group drop what we're doing and run in perfectly straight lines intersecting at the exact middle point between us it could take about 8 minutes. Without the need to use supplies, dodge trees, avoid/navigate towns, or defend ourselves.

3. With this system, you can always spawn. It negates the usefulness of spawn hopping, while allowing players to choose, at least in a very limited and vague way, how to begin. Still need to travel from coast, and most likely longer ways, since each spawn section is about 4km long. Long enough to make re-spawning constantly to loot your own corpse much more difficult.

What is the fun in that? whats the fun in meeting up with your friend after he choose the same spawning point or says "hey I'm at the fifth spawn position, should be 3 spawn position south of you."? Its part of the atmosphere dayz is trying to create, you in an unforgiving country. I once tried to find my friend on an server for an hour and just loved how I need to rationalize and make guesses according to information I currently know.

Either way, people just respawn till they get the spawn they would like. Everytime they do this it creates a new char in the DB and that takes up space so Rocket stated he would rather have us choose our spawns rather then respawn 20x.

i don't think you should know where you spawn. The idea is that you wash up on the beach, you don't get dropped of by a boat. You wash up and re-gain consciousness with no weapon, only a bandaid, and bottle of aspirin, and a flashlight.

I wouldn't be opposed to grouping up in a lobby and spawning near each other, that still goes with the premise of the spawn.

I do like the idea of a spawn timer though, make people be a little more careful about their life. Keep people from cherry picking a good spawn point, and detering people from charging in to cherno like a crazy person only to get eaten 2 minutes after they spawn.

Something like a 10-15 minute cool down after you spawn, if you die in that time you gotta wait to spawn again.

Wow I didn't even know I could respawn again if I didn't like it. Always wondered what the button did as it never worked after being dead.. :P

Thinking about it I am glad I didn't know that. Take much fun away from what little DayZ is about.
