AG-D.Wright 56 Posted July 23, 2012 I really don't understand why this completely relevant and backed up statement gets so much hate on here. When a program is in it's Alpha stage, it is subject to significant changes and bug fixes. So when someone makes a thread about a glitch and someone says, "Its in Alpha" (Which I've done,) it is a completely reasonable statement. Does the fact that its in alpha mean that its going to be fixed? No, it doesn't. But it seriously increases the chances of the bug/glitch being fixed considering the game is in a time of change and improvement. (Whether the game itself is getting better or worse is up to your opinion, but technologically and code-wise it IS getting better.) It "IS" in alpha, which means that most of it's problems lie in this statement. So I don't see why it gets so much hate.

gizm0 96 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) The its in alpha, is used to dismiss an issue someone has with dayz, like how back when minecraft was being made any glitches or issues that caused fustration, people would use its in beta. However at least during that time some people would try to help you out and tell you how to avoid said issue or bug, or even a way to fix any damage the bug did. lugaru 103 Posted July 23, 2012 I play a lot of Alpha games and mods and while some glitches will make me yell at the monitor, overall it is a super playable alpha. I would put it up there with early minecraft or project zomboid in terms of "not done but who cares".What is better, I consider it part of a category of "never done" games. There will always be bugs, but there will always be new cool features you dont have to pay for.

They are under no obligation to provide you with assistance, nor does it really benefit anyone in the interim. This game only exists as a free entity such that they can get valuable testing information, all of which is to provide us with a better experience in the end. danielreid 84 Posted July 23, 2012 If I may ask how does it not help fulfill the purpose of the alpha stage? That's really going to depend on the bug itself, and the context. It is in their best interests to remove or provide workarounds for bugs which bring down production, but the purpose of the alpha has already been fulfilled insofar as the bug has been reported to the appropriate people. Barney (DayZ) 9 Posted July 23, 2012 I'm seriously tired of hearing."IT'S IN ALPHA"No,If it was in alpha it would't be in public. And only chosen people would be able to test it.I'm not saying it should be i love this game. But stop making excuses,They need to fix the game and not keep adding stuff. Longs 42 Posted July 23, 2012 I thought the whole point of Alpha and Beta stages was to find bugs, glitches and compatibility issues so they can be fixed. So when someone points out a glitch and then some brain dead troll yells "ITS AN ALPHA" it's kinda defeating the point.Pointing out flaws like glitches is the entire point of an Alpha now back under your bridge trolls. *=LP=*Cpt.Kawa 57 Posted July 23, 2012 Technically I think the game is late beta. There are some bugs and glitches, but nothing really serious and if the devs would only concentrate on ironing the bugs out IMO the game could be released in a pretty close timeframe. What is in so called "alpha" are the game mechanics. So basically this is try and error as it is really hard to predict in some cases how some things works out. So getting people upset is actually part of the developing process. And people just won't express their ideas and concerns in an elaborate manner just because this is the internet and people are young and not trained software testers and so on, so people bitch a lot, but that is needed. And developers should be able to handle that kind of feedback-mechanic.^^Now cconsidering all that the argument "its alpha so stfu and gtfo, if you don't like it" is really misplaced most of the time and it is often used to just simply avoid any discussion. And the hardcore fanboy faction of the community uses this just to muzzle those who have some other opinions as themselfes. So yeah the "alpha-mod" argument is quite annoying. Atanar 31 Posted July 23, 2012 The problem with "it's in alpha" is that it's thrown at things which are reasonably discussed statements about what should be changed. As if any criticism would be completly irrelevant because "the game is going to change anyway", which is a stupid thing to say. I've witnessed it with minecraft myself, and it either didn't change at all or was changed because of the community. Rocket himself said that he does not need fanboys only. DayZPvP.com 143 Posted July 23, 2012 This game is it's own thing. Don't expect Rocket and Co. to do things exactly like they have been done in the past.Alpha is supposed to be for adding new features, however Rocket rightfully feels an obligation to everyone who has bought ArmA2 to give them something highly playable. He has done that.Anyone saying that this mod is crappy for an alpha has obviously never been an alpha tester. Either that or they have bad luck because per hour this game is less buggy than a lot of AAA B.S. *AFTER* release. Even years after release.
thecrackmuffin 22 Posted July 23, 2012 The DayZ community throws around "It's an alpha" all the time, mostly out of context to a pretty hilarious extent. "My dog just died, can't play DayZ for awhile ;(" "ITZ AN ALPHA!!1." It does have its uses though, mostly in the tear-topics about kids who BAWW aw the game for being too glitchy or too hard or too unlike their precious Call of Duty: Give Me Your Money 5. In reasonable glitch debates it definitely shouldn't be used though.
BearGravy 53 Posted July 24, 2012 I...agree with this. People don't understand that it is an alpha, the beginning broken down part of any games life cycle. This genre isn't really touched on especially with the strong survival aspect of it, so obviously there will be bugs and obviously there will be exploits. It's an alpha, literally in it's first stage. When it gets to beta (Which it will) it will still have bugs but not as many. This is what happens to every game. And do you know why they don't release it to the public in alpha? Because it's an Alpha. People would complain as they do now about how bad a game is even when it isn't ready for full release. Do you know why DayZ is in alpha and open to public? Because not only is he not getting paid to do this, but he doesn't have a big enough team to do this. So yeah it's going to stay in alpha for a while, and yes it will be buggy and it will have exploits for a while, so either man up and stop whining or go buy WarZ when it comes out.
