Joining a server is more frustrating than being killed by bandits...

Recommended Posts

So my friends and I try and find a server to play on last night that would give us 4 hours of daylight. We start by going into servers with correctly listed GMT's or, the time on the server listed in DayZCommander is correct. Most often, it would sit at waiting to create character. After waiting for 5-10 minutes, and nothing loading it's on to another. The rare instance we did get in, it was completely dark. We almost decided to join a Veteran server, since we weren't able to find what we wanted on Regular. We spent an hour looking for a server, before we found one that would work, which is far too long.

A few things:

1) Server admins need to be held more accountable for the data that is listed in their description, specifically the GMT setting. They should also be required to keep their servers up to date. If a new patch drops, and they haven't updated their server in a reasonable time, they should be removed from the browser list until they meet the minimum required version.

2) The central DayZ servers need to be improved. Several servers had less than 75ms ping, so it's obvious that the servers are responding quickly. Sitting at "wait for character to create" for long periods of time seems to mean that the server is waiting on the central servers to obtain location, gear, etc. There were several people complaining about this last night on the servers we joined. Either servers need to be added, or there needs to be a timeout so we are not wasting our time waiting to play the game.

3) I also think a combination of Six Launcher and DayZCommander is in order to get better results from the server browser. Six Launcher's update ability, and difficulty level are necessary, while the filters and time on server features on DayZCommander are awesome. I wish every server had the ability to communicate the time in game to the server browser, so it's not so hit or miss.

This is just my two cents/rant. The game is one of the best games I have played to date, and I look forward to playing more in the future. I just hope I don't have to wait an hour to find something playable in the future.

Use DayzCommander instead of Sixupdater or the Arma 2 window.

Dayzcommander lists the times and other information of the server.

DayzCommander Enjoy :)

Oh, nevermind. You were using DayzCommander...I missed that part xD

Joining a server can be a pain in the butt sometimes, but it's mainly due to the fact that BI is releasing beta updates almost constantly and Rocket is also releasing updates for DayZ. A lot of server don't want to update to the newer version for various reasons, but in a while, all of the connection issues will cease.

1) Mostly every Server Owner updates their Server.

2) Servers are hosted by individuals not DayZ - We check the system specs before we approve it to make sure all server are optimized for gameplay - which they are.

3) That would be something to bring up to the Six Updater team - not the DayZ forums since Sixupdater isn't just for DayZ.

1) I understand that it's the owners responsibility, but it seems there are a few owners who need to get on the ball. There are far too many 1.61 servers and below out there. And the descriptions should be accurate and conatain all necessary data.

2) I understand that DayZ does not host the individual servers. It is of my opinion that the reason it takes so long to get into the game is not the servers we are joining, but the core servers that hold our player data. I believe these are being overwhelmed, especially since the Steam sale.

3) This was more a general suggestion. Although, if admins would keep their descriptions current and accurate, all we would need is a server browser, and not a better launcher.
