Have no idea what I'm doing

Im trying to download the mod DayZ but it seems I'm doing it wrong. I've followed all the directions in the DayZ alpha test downloader but I still cant get on a server so basically I'm stuck in the mud. If someone could tell me step by step what I have to do to get the mod that would be very helpful.

Ive downloaded Arma 2 combined operations and the six updater and launcher.

(I'm trying to download it on my laptop)

Any particular message being displayed? What stage are you at when you join a server?

Did you get the battleeye update ? Sixlauncher should update the game. v1.61.94945+<< http://www.battleye.com/download.html

That's the thing, I can't join a server because a message does pop up saying "The beta is enabled but you also have the steam launcher enabled". What does this mean?
